I searched the forum and didn't see a listing for this so I figured I would share. Unfortunately I did this yesterday and didn't think to take pics and we all know how we like pics!

We all know that the pins and bushings wear out on the S10 doors and need to be replaced on a regular basis. Unfortunately not everyone else knows this and quite often they let them go well beyond the point of wearing out the bushings. They actually wear through the bushings and start wearing out the holes in the hinges that the bushings mount in. If you have a mig welder they're not terribly hard to repair once the door is removed from the truck. You simply weld the side of the hole that is worn/elongated and then grind it out back to the right size and shape again.

The trick that we have learned to make this process a little easier it to insert a small piece of copper tubing in the hole before welding it up. The weld will form around the copper, but will not stick to it. Once you have welded up the worn section of the hole you can remove the copper tubing and now you have a lot less grinding to do to get the hole back to normal size. It also makes it easier to keep the hole located in the right spot on the hinge.

Hope this helps!

Good tip.

I also weld a washer on to add thickness. Both of my upper cab side hinges where cracked, never had a problem again.
