What fluid is supposedto go in the transfer case / front diff of a 1988 GMC s15 4x4
is it tranny fluid, or gear oil?

I don't remember where I put my book... but I think I remember the transfer case using mercon/dexcon II/III & the front diff uses the same as the rear.. 80w95 gear lube. You know.. the stuff that smells like dinosaur poop. Eric hates the smell but I like it.. & I don't like the green font for Mods. I'd like the blue back..
Yup, tranny fluid in the t-case and gear oil in the front diff.

..what tink said.
I bath in gear oil..when I do a service on a Tractor, its not uncommon to drain and refill 120 Liters of Hydraulic oil, 25 Liters of engine oil, and 30 plus liters of gear oil. I guess 1 Liter is a quart, so you kinda get the idea of how much oil we go through, being a major tractor dealership.
I dont mind the smell of gear oil, just hate it when you get into something that has burned up a bearing, or hasnt been changed in a long time, thats when the stuff stinks!
