so, i've been pondering fabbing up my own cold air intake for the Deluxe, which sports a throttle body. First off, is there any manufactured out there that i can possibly buy, or at least model off of? Has anyone actually done this before? Will i even make any power over slamming a K&N into my air cleaner? Thoughts, opinions, etc?

yes, more power. yes others have done it. yes you could model off of others (k&n makes one i think). better than just a filter.

thoughts: do it.

opinions: many

etc: etc.

um, k&n doesnt make it for the early TBI models.... i checked the catalog at work today

My biggest hangup, how to route and attach the pipe to the top of the throttle body

That's got the air cleaner that sits on top of the TB unit right? I'm thinking if you got an air cleaner base and cut out the center of the base you could weld a "hat" on to that. Then you could run you cold air tube up to one of those cone shaped K & N's

As far as the caddy hat, I cannot get a clear answer on the year only a 4.9L model.

Caddy info, off of a Fiero swapping website.

1991 thru 1995 4.9 liter engine used in Eldorado, Seville, DeVille and Fleetwood lines is an overhead valve, 90 degree V8. It has an aluminum block and intake with iron heads. PFI engines have larger throttle bores, as well as bigger ports and valves than previous TBI engines. A PFI engine is easily identified by the "V8 PFI" in red on the forward valve cover, and the presence of fuel rails and injectors on the intake manifold. The 4.5 PFI was only made for 1 year, 1990, and it can be identified by the round distributor cover and 4.5 liter emblem on the air box. There are several other subtle visual differences. In '91, the AIR system was eliminated from most 4.9s meaning no more smog pump or select/divert valve. '91 and later Cadillacs are equipped with 4T60E electronic shift transmissions as opposed to the 4T60 trans used with all 4.5 and 4.1 transverse engines. Some other changes for the introduction of the 4.9 in '91 include a new gerotor oil pump, new oil pan and baffle for less chance of oil starvation, new profile on pistons for reduced cold noise (the 4.5 pistons are noticeably noisy when cold), new lifter guides with a new angle for improved camshaft stability, new style crankshaft balancer, as well as a few other minor changes. The biggest improvement (besides the increased displacement) is the new oil pump. The advantages are a 33% decrease in pump drive loads, 13% increase in flow, 18% increase in pressure @ 2000rpm, and a 64% decrease in oil aeration. The '90 - '95 engines are equipped with a sequential Port Fuel Injection (PFI) system. The Sequential Port Fuel Injection system replaces the Throttle Body Injection (TBI) system used in previous years. The PFI system replaces the two injectors in the throttle body with eight injectors located in the intake manifold. There is one injector above each intake valve. A fuel rail distributes fuel to each of the injectors. The use of individual injectors on each cylinder results in more power and better emission controls by eliminating problems of fuel condensation and dropout and of uneven distribution in the intake manifold. Many port fuel injection systems operate the injectors all at once or in groups. In this system the injectors operate in engine firing order spraying fuel before and during intake valve opening.

out of a 1991 to 1995 Cadillac. Add it to your list Frenchie, just the air hat, the rest is pretty worthless to me.

Yes, that is the part you need. The flex boot and the TBI hat. Then you can but 3"-3.5" pipe and make the rest with a open filter.
Ive sold 2-3 of them B4. Theres plenty availible here if you need me to pick you up one.

lee measure your diameter of your tbi. When I sold the camaro I had a cold air system made for my carb. Looks like the K&N FIPK2 that goes over the tbi etc. Well hmm yours have a stud for a wingnut? Its all aluminum and curls out for a hose and cone filter. I dunno anything about the older tbi units but if it has a stud and is the same diameter I'll mail it to you for free

Nah........

aluminum block + cast iron heads = Very poor decision on GM's part.

aluminum is softer and expands at a much faster rate than cast iron. IIRC those motors went through head gaskets and heads like nothin.

They were junk.

I made a cai using the caddy hat. You will need the rubber connector to attatch a piece of tubing and then the filter. I had a guy bent a piece of stainless exhaust tubing so I could get the filter right into the left corner and built an air box with a scoop that is mounted in front of the radiator. I will try and get some pic's when I can and post them. This really helped out at top end on the interstate.

Opening is the same size but you need an offset stud for the TBI.
PM me if you just need that also.

Check out Maximus's build thread. He used the "hat" from Airaid. You can get just the hat for a fullsize. Or just do the caddy hat, I got mine from Mike....

If you have a PVC hook up on the plenum and room for the throttle lever to move then toss the spacer ring.
