Weird tranny issue

I may be getting a 96 s10 4x4, well, the tranny in it shifts fine , but it wont start in park, u can put it into neutral and it will start, what would cause it to do that? The light on the dash doesn't show it in park, but will in reverse,neutral, and all the other gears.... Can someone help me out, I really want this truck, and I want to know if its worth buying with this problem????

maybe a sensor so when its in park it should start ? havent really heard that one before ? sounds like a sensor on the trans though

I duno either, It will start just fine in neutral but not park, and the luminesent thing isn't lite will its in park either.

Possilbly a "neutral safety switch", this is what keeps you from starting the engine while it is any gear besides park or neutral. They are usually located on the steering column under the dash. Hope this helps. If that were the only problem the truck had it wouldnt keep me from buying it.
