I did a brake job on the front this weekend with new rotors, calipers, hoses, and pads. It was my first time to do a brake job on a 4X4 and I was happy with the way the rotors just came off the hub unlike 2WD where you have to repack the bearings and such.
My question is about bedding the new brakes. I have done quite a few brake jobs before and have never really got a clear direction on how to do the bedding properly. I have tried to bed them before by doing 3 near stops from 30 mph, 3 near stops from 50, and then 3 near stops from around 65. By near stops I mean getting on the brake pretty hard and then letting off just before it comes to a complete stop. I have been told to do it this way so that the pad doesn't "burn" into the final place on the rotor during this procedure. The reason I feel this is not effective is because last spring I did the brakes on my wife's truck and did the bedding that way and here brakes are starting to act like they need replaced again. I have also been told to just drive it and be sure to hit the brakes a little harder the first 5 to 8 stops.
Any advise would be appreciated!
