I finally found where the leak is in my A/C system, thanks to the use of a friend's UV tester kit. There's a length of rubber hose near the condensder on the high-pressure line (right under the battery tray), and it's go UV dye all over the hard line on either side of it.
Sometime this month I'm going to get it drained, replace some parts and get it vac'd and filled. Right now I'm planning on replacing the upper lines since they are 14 years old and have some wear spots from rubbing the hood insulation; replacing the accumulator since it's cheap insurance; and replacing the orifice tube with one of the self-adjusting ones. My question is what kind of rubber hose do I need to use to replace that leaking spot? It doesn't have any hose clamps on it, so should I install some?
I'm also going to add that I replaced the compressor, accumulator, o-tube and oil in May of 2003 because the bearings in the old one were shot. I switched to 134 at the time.
I first noticed this leak in December of 2004 when I got it back after the engine build. I never had a problem with a leak until that point. I thought they drained it and just forgot to recharge it, so I had them refill it (for free), but they said they didn't open the system. I didn't use it until this past summer when it was low on freon again. The compressor kicks on for about 1-2 seconds each time it engages. Not long enough to get the system cold.
