1992 4.3 CPI, Code 44. Too lean, about 10-15 after startup. Clears on re-start and takes another 10-15 to code again. Any hints ? Procedure for testing O2 senors ? I know, a torch, 12 volts and an ohmeter, but I need the actual procedure.

Go to www.autozone.com and sign up. You will have to enter all your trucks info but they have the haynes online for free. Just type in oxygen sensor then there should be a trouble shoot you can click on that tells you how to do it.

On our 87+88 -2.8 I'd change the O2,disconnect the batt. maybe toss in a bottle of fuel inj.cleaner+ maybe a new air filter and that would usually cure it-Bosch O2 of coarse.:)
Trouble Code 44 indicates that the O2 sensor is showing a persistently high exhaust oxygen content (lean), despite the efforts of the ECM to increase injector on-time (thus increasing fuel delivered).
Typical causes for this code include:
1) O2 sensor defective or lead shorted
2) Lean injectors (dirty or blocked)
3) Water in fuel
4) Exhaust leaks upstream of O2 sensor
5) Fuel pressure or volume too low
6) MAF sensor reading lower airflow than is actually present
7) Vacuum leaks

I will try it all. Thanks. I didn't have this issue until I put the stock air cleaner back on with a new filter.

No vaccum leaks or exhaust leaks. The O2 sensor has power to as well as ground. The voltage is .04v DC warmed up, this according to my book is bad. It says .40-.55 fluctuating rapidly. Is this correct ? If so, where do I score the cheapest 02 sensor ?

Not to bring up an old thread but....
I have a 1993 S-10 with the 2.8 litre. I'm on my 2nd 02 sensor and the dang SES light is on again.
Pulled the codes....I have a 13 and also a 44.
This is my 2nd Bosch 02 sensor. I'm beginning to feel these are junk. My first took a dump less than 100 miles after I installed it.
This one I think has done the same thing....my gas mpg has gone down. I am considering volt checking it before I remove it and toss it. How many volts should i be checking for when fully hot?
