first let's clear up a myth. If you have a newer rds radio , onstar, bose on anything wired into the ecm thrugh your headunit you don't have to mount the factory radio under the seat. even if your onstar equiped there are simple solution to get around remote mounting factory HUs(i belive this apply to all 01 and up gms).
