if it wasn't bad enough you have to quit smokeing to keep your job now their trying to fire poeple for being overweight.
what's next you can only work if your 6' blond w/blue eyes.

Next on the firing line: overweight workers.

"We have to work on eating habits and getting people to exercise. But if you're obese, you're (legally) protected," Weyers said.

He has brought in an eating disorder therapist to speak to workers, provided eating coaches, created a point system for employees to earn health-related $100 bonuses and plans to offer $45 vouchers for health club memberships.

The 71-year-old Weyers, who said he has never smoked and pronounced himself in good shape thanks to daily runs, said employees' health as well as saving money on the company's own insurance claims led him to first bar smokers from being hired in 2003.

Last year, he banned smoking during office hours, then demanded smokers pay a monthly $50 "assessment," and finally instituted mandatory testing.

Twenty workers quit the habit.

Weyers tells clients to quit whining about health care costs and to "set some expectations; demand some things."

Job placement specialist John Challenger said Weyco's moves could set a precedent for larger companies -- if it survives potential legal challenges.

"Certainly it raises an interesting boundary issue: rising health care costs and society's aversion to smoking versus privacy and freedom rights of an individual," Challenger said.

So far no legal challenges have been made to Weyco's policies.

I said it once and i will say it again, employment is optional, not manditory. If you dont like how the company is run, quitl

thats bull**** tho. if the people can do their job fine without having to lose weight then whats the deal? There is no reason for them to start doing this. You bet your *** there will be some lawsuits over this. And I tell ya what. If I was one of those workers.. and they told me that crap.... I would probably tell them to stick the job up their *** and the blow the place up. Descrimination at its finest.

people in this country that arn't are getting screwed. I don't know about anyone else but I NEED to work, I NEED insurance. There is not option on whether I work or not.

the point here Is this employer is steping on peoples basic rights to get the perfect little pupets. and you have to look a certain way and you can only live the way your employer(corporation) tells you to. I belive it's called capitalisim and thought we lived in a democratict society.
If not stoped outher will thinck it's ok to trow people out on the street because they don't like the way the look, talk, dress, you name it. Isn't that called captilisim.

If you fight for something and lose something than nobody can say you didn't try. If you chose not to fight and lose everything than don't *****.

what I was sayign is that unless you are contracted, it isnt your right to work there. You and I may need that stuff, but our employers dont have to have us. Like I said you can get fired if your fingernails are too long. I dont agree with it either, but that is the plain and simple truth

Cant go completely against the idea!!!!

Overweight has gone crazy here to us lazy Americans and is causing health care to spiral upwards etc.
We just had a kid that weighed 400 lbs trying to work for us. Couldnt move fast enough, couldnt move for a length of time etc. Just plain slow as thick syrup and I really hated to fire him, kinda felt a little sorry, but I had to push him in order to meet deadlines. Well he left cause he knew he couldnt do the job!! There is not many jobs somebody like that can do unless he has a edamaction where he can sit on his FAT A** to do it!!!
