Looks like I have to scale down my drop for monetary reasons. :(

Need to know if I do say a 2/3 should I do a 2" spring or 2" spindle in front and in back 3" leaf or 3" block? Keeping in mind I like to keep it cheap, but not sure how ride quality will suffer from one to the next.

Obviously the cheapest would be spring/block combo.

thx,
D

I did ZQ8 front springs, Belltech spindles, and Belltech leafs. The rear leafs are very soft, so I also used Caltracs to get rid of the wheel hop.

I think I would go spindles and leafs but then you'll need drop shocks for the back and you get wheelhop.

If you go spindles and 3"blocks, you wont need drop shocks and wont anymore wheel hop then you already have. But this way if you decide you want a 3/4, 4/5 drop you'll need another set of blocks.

If you go 2" coils and blocks you should get drop shocks for the front.

Add in the cost of the shocks you would want to use into the cost and see coils and blocks would still be cheaper than spindle and blocks.

If your mind is set on a 4/5 why not just get a 2/2 w/spindles and 2"blocks? Then you can get the coils, leafs, shocks and pinion alignment shims later.

what exactly is meant by "wheelhop"?

2/2 sounds so wienie. Guess I may not have a choice right now. 2/2 better than 0/0.

The leaf springs are so soft, when you spin the tires, the leaf springs twist up like a rubber band, then unload and make the whole bed jump up in the air.

2/2 isnt weinie. I would suggest it before doing a 4/5 just to see if you like it. I love my 5/6 but it does suck trying to get over speed bumps, and has taken a toll on my y-pipe. I only drive like 6 miles to work everyday so its not too big a deal, but if I were commuting with it I would have stayed around a 3/4. Drop leafs are great when it comes to ride quality, but burning out or launching real hard gives nasty wheelhop.

If you already have some wheelhop blocks will make it worse - they give the axle more leverage on the leafs. Caltracs are a brand of traction bar that counter the twisting action on the leafs and stop wheelhop. They're a pretty high-end part though, you can get essentially the same function from regular traction bars but they hang alot lower which may be an issue on an already low truck.

If you're running a really stiff leaf-pack like the Z85 option has then wheelhop probably won't be a problem. I'm running ZQ8 coils front and Z85 leafs with 3" blocks in the rear and I've never had wheelhop issues. The bilstein shocks and ZQ8 swaybars really make a difference if you run ZQ8 coils. Like KIF said, they're really soft without the rest of the package.

so I finally got my 2/2 drop. I don't like it. still too high. To me it doesn't look like it dropped at all. Probably want to go 4/5 now. So If I get 2" coils upfront, guess I need shocks too huh?

Now, what If I do 3-4" blocks and remove the middle leaf for the rear? Would I regret that? Should I just get the new 3" leafs? Would i need shocks for both scenarios?

Thx,
D

Hmmm...I don't remember. Why do need the brand of spindles and blocks?

That's all right Was just curious. When I hit the reply thread, it jumped down the screen to far to see the other post. Like you said you can always get springs & blocks later. But what do have now?

hell a brick and a torch...put the bricks on the ground for the desired height and heat the ft springs till the frame touches it! block the back to match the ft. old school, kidney killers! don't ride worth a crap! :)

Spindle and 2" blocks

Spindle and 2" blocks Okay. If the spindles are 2in also. The cheapest way I know is 2in(drop) springs in front & 3in(drop) springs for the rear. + Drop shocks. Check out www.truckn.com That's where i got my kit, They used to be a cheap as anyone.
And i'd at least get a ZQ8 rear sway bar. That's what our Sonoma had,no wheel hop there either.:)
