View Full Version : budget rocker swap
I have a 99, with 02 cyl heads. (swaped heads when i did my cam so no waiting time at machine shop for valve guides to be cut) plus its easier to swap rockers on these heads.
- I have a little bit of valve noise (figured i would) since the roller trunion heads are not adjustable so I want to go with an adjustable set up.
-With the roller trunion heads all I need is the studs for adjustable rocker arms Which is the right length ARP 134-7201= 1.750' or 100-7201 = 1.59'
-Also, If I use just the roller tip rockers insted of full rollers, do I still need the taller valve covers? It seems that the lock nuts are why the taller covers are needed.
-Last one: If I use the 1.6 ratio do I need to A)modify the push rod holes, B) get different push rods, C) will the stock set up work fine? I have heard all 3 scenerios
I figured by not having to buy valve covers I could get away with just doing the studs ($50 ebay) and roller tip rockers ($100 ebay) to achive proper valve adjustment. What are your thoughts?

If you are running the '02 heads you will need the 100-7201 studs. Pushrod parts number is 7808-12 for $26 at summit and the holes wont need to be machined. I am not sure about the rockers....what is the part number? 1317-12 from compcam. What cam did you install? if its the 266HR then you will probably need the old style valve covers

I know I read the sticky. It was great. I was just curious if taller valve covers were necesary if im using the roller tip rockers (with old style lock nuts) intead of full roller rockers (with the tall lock nuts). It would be very simalar to the 96-up press in style stud heads correct?
-Chrisvich- just curious: what does the type of cam Im runnig have to do with the valve covers?
-Thanks for the help guys.
OH by the way
The Enemy- Good job on blowing up an Iron duke. I thought those things were bullett proof.

The studs you need are tall and the polylocks will need the clearance.
Different in a way then the 96-up press ins.

Im using the roller tip rockers (1st pic) with old style locknuts instead of the full rollers with the poly locks.
So I guess what im asking is are the studs going to fit under stock covers? Since no poly locks are being used only old style lock nuts.
-Sorry for the confusion.

Nice little set up! I like this idea! What kind of gains might one expect by doing say the 1.6 swap and going full roller on a stock 03 4.3?
Anyone know? Or have an idea?
