I have the 15" swirl wheels on my truck and was pondering painting the grey part black. Any suggestions or has anyone done this?
Is it a bad idea? What kind of prep would need to be done?

Well, the wheels are cleared over.
You could rough up the inner part, paint it darker as desired and then clear over it seperately...or re-clear the entire wheel surface if you rough it up a bit with some light sandpaper/wet.
Strip all the clear off, paint the inset. Then just clear the inset and polish the face to a luster. Or reclear the entire thing.
Rexlearing the entire rim would be best so that you dont have areas prone to flaking up later on where the edges of the old clear and new meet.
But more money and work equals more time spent. But a better job.

You can just rough them up and paint them. Its a temporary solution tho.

I wasnt sure what was all into doing it and i dont have the place or time to do that stuff anymore.
Next year once we move out of this crappy apt complex we will get into a house and i will have a garage!

IC. Well, I always just try to give the best way to do things. I dont hate if you do it the only way you can. But, if you have limited funds and resources....scuffing it with a scotchbtire (or 1000grit paper) , cleaning it and spraying it...will be OK. Just will not last too long.
