View Full Version : Looking for some advice here....
Would there be any benefit to purchasing a gun 'second-hand' or at a gun sale? Meaning that if 'THEY' tried to 'take guns away', would I be able to get one that could not be traced to me, so they would not know I had it? Or in private sales, does the seller collect your information (in the form of a bill of sale of the date, amount, serial number, name(s) of buyers or sellers, disclaimer of any warranties, etc)?
Perhaps the "gun take away" isn't going to happen on the doomsday scale, but just more restrictions and more difficulties in getting things like permits/etc. Would it be better to get a Caryy/Conceal permit now or not bother since that may be an indication that I have firearms? There is a Concealed Carry Class at the local range coming up in a few weekends....
Also, I have a friend selling a Kel Tec PF9 little 9mm. Any thoughts on these guns?

I would only buy an unregistered gun from someone I know well. 380's kick like Heck. I have a 9 and I like it pretty good.:D

Any gun sold 'legally' or at a gun show will indeed have your info applied. You still have to pass your local background check. Any gun sold and there is not any state paperwork filed, can be confiscated and you can face criminal charges.
On a side note I got my Glock from a pawn dealer. Used but its a pre-ban, So its got the hi-cap clip and legal to have it loaded in it.

You can run the serial numbers through the local PD, otherwise I would get a photo copy of the sellers drivers liscence for your records. Try to get away with giving as little info to the seller. As for guns. I really like my Beretta 9mm. Ammo is cheap and it is dead accurate. I am not as worried about stopping power because I can pump out 12 rounds accurately, that will stop someone!!!

gun shows they may unregistor the guns I dunno how they do gun shows though. And .380s dont really kick anymore than a 9. Same bullet smaller casing in a .380. Keltecs are nice for personal defense. Small, very light weight. They're decently accurate for their size. Only thing I dont like about Keltecs is their trigger pull. Their pull is long and heavy....they should of resought the trigger if its a defense gun you shouldn't have to pull so hard on the trigger. Kinda feels like your gonna squeeze to hard and break the damn thing. They're worth the money though for a concealed gun.

If you do the concealed weapon permit now, more than likely you will be grandfathered in to whatever "new" laws will be rearing their ugly heads. I would suggest the course.
I agree. Massachusetts has some of the strictest gun laws in the nation (for instance, the bull**** "assault weapons ban" is still in effect here, we need a license just to buy a can of pepper spray), but any purchase made before the ban is still A-OK. It would take some time for any change in laws to materialize anyway, it won't happen overnight. I would think if you go about it legally you should be alright, because I think if the government tried to take away guns people already owned legally that a lot people would give them back..barrels first.

my family buys guns regularly from local gun shows and private dealers and have never had any issues. they generally don't ask for info unless the gun is new. my brother has bought guns where he even had to wait with the local handgun laws. for the most part it's all under the table type of sales. it's the same as anything else luck of the draw. 45's are nice guns too. 9mm are overrated. my dad has a .380 and loves it. just in my parents house we have collectively 30 guns. my dad collects them and so me and my brother have started as well.

9mm's aren't really over rated. They're a good round for any gun. Decent velocities and even in the mp5 sub machine guns they can pentrate body armor. .45's wont penetrate body armor, more slow but more knock down. Any gun will kill anything you just have to know where to shoot. Certain types of ammo work better than others. No over-ration when it comes to guns. Personally only good thing I see from .45's are the knock down and the fact if you do have a supressor you can get loads typically less than 1000fps so down range you dont have the "crack" effect. More silent over all but throw a silencer on a 9mm thats above the 1000fps and you wont hear it up close but down range you'd hear the bullet crack.....kinda wondering why they use silencers on .223 m4's that are setup for snipers hmm lol.
If, and in my worthless opinion a big if, they pass much more restrictive national gun laws you'll have plenty of warning ahead of time. Anything you purchase now legal, stays legal. I can't imagine them passing any kind of law that would get enough support of pass the courts judgment that could make a legaly purchased gun now illegal to continue to own.
Right now the real laws you have to worry about are your local laws. I'm in Virginia, and we have some of the most relaxed laws. You don't even have to have a permit to wear a clearly visible side arm anywhere besides Gov't buildings (and maybe a few other restrictions). I.e. I can strap on a pistol on a thigh holster in plain site and walk into starbucks and it's completely legal. Not something I'm going to do, but I could.
Also, at least in Virginia, it is legal to sell any personally owned firearm to another person in a person to person non-commercial transaction. No background check required, no registration required (there maybe be some restrictions on more exotic weapons, but I don't know of them). I know other states are more restrictive. This is usually how gun shows function.
Though, yes I'm not a Republican follower, I do enjoy and believe in our right to bare arms. And if I feel that my elected officials are taking the wrong path when it comes to gun laws I'll make sure they know my opinion. Right now the incoming administration/Gov't has much bigger problems to worry about than pushing forward gun law changes, specially after the supreme court has made it clear that they aren't going to take **** on that.
So don't rush out and impulse buy a gun. Do your research and get the gun you really think you want for the right reasons and your needs. Just keep your eye's/ears open incase the gov't tries to do something stupid. It's always possible, but you'll have plenty of warning before hand.

x2 missouri is pretty relaxed on the gun laws here also. Eh nothing wrong with having to many guns d-caf ;) I dunno why there's talks about tryin to outlaw concealed carry (i've heard that around here dunno if its just missouri or what) but hell here you have to have a background check, no criminal record etc......just to have a c&c....only thing I dont like is your old enough to buy a pistol at 21 but here you have to be 23 to do the c&c.
Its diff. by state but I think all pistols need papers to transfer to someone (legally), both new and used
That's how it is in PA and the gun laws are also very relaxed. Rifles are diff. story, unless your buying rifles new you give the person the $ and they give you the gun & that's it ("gun show loophole").
I'd be leery of buying a pistol without papers from someone you dont know... you never know where its been or whats been done with it.
I wouldn't wanna get caught carried concealed without my license either, biggg no no. Also, I believe law enforcement can check serial number (to see if stolen) if they have reasonable cause.
In PA you can carry openly without a license too, but you need a carriers license to transport it in a vehicle.
If any kinda bans come up they will most likely grandfather everything else in as already mentioned. Until then, its not worth getting caught with the stuff illegally.
Everyone wanted 0b@m@ in office and they got it. Dispite the commercials, he is big antigun from all the ridiculous gun laws I read he was trying to pass.
Thats one of the reasons im getting some stuff now like my bushmaster, and loking to pickup an AK, and high caps mags for all my guns before another Assault weapons ban.

Wonder if parts of the ar's and ak's would be scarice to find if they do an assualt ban......after i buy the ak tommorow i need to order a double hook trigger
I would guess any of the parts that are in violation of any ban, maybe...They would just have to stop making new stuff and the old stuff would go up in price. demand > supply
If anything happens like the last assault weapons ban, it wont really do anything except restrict features that are nonsense, make things more $ and give whoever was an advocate of it a big head
Here are a few more details on Viginia's laws. They really are very relaxed:

A nice little article about it:
http://hamptonroads.com/2008/03/how-us-virginia-and-other-states-compare-gun-laws
Some keep points:
- Weapons are not registered.
- There is no permit required to open carry
- Sales between private individuals are not monitored or recorded. (that includes pistols)

My big concern is more the carry/conceal permit over actually purchasing another gun at this time. I've got a .410 and a Ruger .22 single six revolver with the 2 cylinders - 1 for mags, one for LRs. Just wanted to get something else sooner rather than later.
Anyhow, I don't want this to become a huge political thing but I need to explain where my concern on the Carry/Conceal is coming from.... it is because Obama has clearly stated that he plans to pursue a ban on carry conceal laws. Below is a link to an audio recording of an Obama interview with NPR (National Public Radio) -- you can listen to the whole interview or just the 39 seconds where Obama clearly says that he supports a ban on concealed carry laws.

As I have stated before. Tis is a huge mistake. If criminals dont have to guess whos armed then it will take the guess work out of who they should rob, at this point the criminals would be protected by a law that is supposed to be protecting law abiding citizens.
