You should have the balance shaft and roller tipped rockers, the job is mostly detail work. You'd be suprised how much work leads up to the actual installation of the cam. ALL of the top end has to come OFF thats the problem so try and figure ANYTHING else that would get done at the same time i.e. rockers and intake and head work you get the idea. So save up and do it all at once. Good Luck with it.

Balance shaft and roller rockers you do have. Cam could take as little as 6 hours, or a day or 2 if youve never done one before or have any troubles. Radiator needs to come out so you may pull it out and put one in, oil pan front has to be dropped, gasket set needed etc. Never done one before then get a Chiltons and read, read , read and find someons who has to maybe back you up!

Listen to Yoda get a Chiltons and READ READ READ! Jus keep this in mind the guy who put it together originally was he really that much smarter than you? Probably not with the tools a manual and the time you can do it.

Yes, I've done it TWICE on this truck. . . EVERYTHING needs to come off. Intake manifold, valve covers, timing chain cover (you need to drop the oil pan to do that -- or at least the front of it), radiator, A/C condenser, grille, etc.

It's NOT a fun job. I don't recommend it if this is your daily driver -- it means a lot of down time. And then after you get the cam itself installed, you need to put all of it back together -- AFTER you adjust the valve lash. Very time consuming. If you want to go internal, then get a set of upgraded 1.6 ratio rocker arms -- it won't be quite as much of a gain as a cam, but it will be more valve lift -- which is always good.

Oh, just forewarning, If you decide to do this be sure not to break those cheap plastic things holding the lifters in place. I rebuilt a cpi motor last week and managed to do that. Always be sure you have ALL the bolts out before you get mad and yank at something.

That motor ticked me off so much.
