I recieved my JBA ceramic coated/titanium headers today. They will be going on tomorrow or thursday. Here are some pics. http://www.sicgmtrucks.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=694&stc=1 http://www.sicgmtrucks.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=695&stc=1 Jedi was right they do come with everything you need. http://www.sicgmtrucks.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=696&stc=1 Jedi, you said they come stage 8 bolts right? They are nice looking black bolts but it doesn't say if they are stage 8. What is a heat riser tube? The directions say something about heat riser tube.

I bought them from our store. Sicgmtrucks store. $488 and some change with shipping. The cheapest I found. They were having a special on ceramic coated/titanium. The titanium is just the color. They don't have titaniun in them.

Are they new? Ceramic coated? If I had the air injection and didn't buy these already I would take them off your hands.

LMC truck has Long tube headman headers with a 3" colector for $229.99
with a lifetime warrenty.

It says they're street legal only on models not equiped with factory catillitic convertors.
But im sure you can get them to work with a cat. somehow

I didnt say they came with Stage 8 Bolts, thats what everyone whom is afraid they will install them wrong and will leak use. Buying them after the fact. Ive never had my headers leak, I wet my gaskets in water and tighten or check the header bolts twice weekly for a month, then weekly for another month then never touch them again!

Does anyone know how to remove the steering shaft on my blazer, "02"?

Krazny

Remove it?
Yes.
Removing it in a condition to put it back on?
No.

Supposidly there's a bolt at the top of the shaft by the brake booster
that you take out and the shaft move out of the way.

There is a bluish-green bolt (10mm) toward the bottom. It's under a black plastic cover/wrap. If you remove that cover and look down (through the hood) past your air filter, you should see it. Take that bolt all the way out (get a 24" extension and a ratchet and loosen it from up top -- that's the easiest). Push that section of the steering shaft towards the windshield to get it off the gear box. After you get it clear of the gear box, pull it toward the front of the truck -- it'll be hard to pull off, but it will come off and you won't break anything.

I know this from many experiences -- both from putting headers on and it also makes changing spark plugs a LOT easier (going through the wheel wells is easier than going down through the top).

I got it. Didn't know I had to remove the bolt all the way. Even then it was hard, I had to pry it towards the windshield, then it started to move. I got the driver side off, FINALLY!!!!!!!!!! Pain in the ass. I hope the pass. side is alot easier.

every one says headers are a really good power gain. cause if so I need to get some and the rest of the exhaust.

LEADFOOT
02-17-05, 10:23 AM
WOW!!!!!!!! All i can say is F*CK THIS. :banghead_ :banghead_ :angry-fir :wtf: Ok so everything was going good, I got the driver side off, was waiting for a friend to come by to take me to the store so I went and took the pass. side off. Yeah pass. side much easier. I thought I was making pretty good time and was gonna be finished before midnight, yeah right. When I started the installing process is when **** started to fly, the swear jar started to fill up fast. I got the pass side on and done, everything back together over there. I got the driver side on and thats it. Need to connect the exhaust to the header, install the plugs, temp sensor, and all the rest of the ****. I called it a night at midnight last night, I could barely stand, muchless crawl under that damn thing again. Hands are all F'd up, back hurts like hell, hands hurt, arms hurt, neck hurts, legs hurt. JBA needs to redo their design. In a couple places, if they just put this pipe a little to the left or down it would have made things alot easier. QUESTION..........How in the hell are you supposed to tork the header bolts to spec's when you can't even get a socket on some of them??????????????? Hell, you can't even get a tork wrench in there. Keep in mind I am doing this install all by MYSELF!!!! :furious3: :furious3: :furious3:

LEADFOOT
02-17-05, 10:28 AM
Word of adivse...............pay someone to do the install. Preferably an automotive shop. I got an estimate on the install for $350. But I wanted to take part in the install. Now I could kick myself.

xtentions, swivel sockets, u-joints, and wobble xtentions are your frined when you do this. put together a bunch of xtentions and u-joints then hookk up the torque wrench to them in the wheel well...

LEADFOOT
02-17-05, 02:54 PM
DONE!!!!!!!!! Finally. A couple header bolts, I can't even a socket on them with my hand. They are too close to the tube. How important is it to tork them? I just tightened them all a little over snug. Don't get me wrong they are tight. About as tight as the ones that were in there.

I just took it for a test drive and maybe a little bit of an improvement noticed. Here's the ****ty part. I pulled out of my drive way and my steering wheel is crooked. I have to take the shaft back off and turn it. Atleast I don't need to take off a header.

How are these for extensions? These come in real handy. I bought them at a flea market about 6 months ago for $8.00/all 3, I knew I would use them someday. Oh yeah, I went to get my dad's tork wrench yesterday and he loaned it out to a friend of his and he is out of town untill next week.

I'm willing to bet the shaft itself is off a tooth or two from the gearbox and that's all. Real easy to fix.

The steering shaft only goes on one way -- but you may have turned it a little off the gear box when you put it back on. It's easy to fix. Park on a flat surface with your wheels as straight as you can get them. Undo that blue-green bolt and slide the shaft off the gearbox again. Turn it until the steering wheel is straight with the wheels (but not too much -- there's wires in there!) and then slap it back into place and replace the bolt. Easy as cake!

I dont know about the design of those headers. From looking at the picture it looks like all of the primaries are different length..... how is that going to take any advantage of exhaust tuning? At least they flow alot better than a ****ty log manifold!

When i tryed to do mine i took the wheel wells out it was woth the extra few bolts because it made my life so much easier i had no problems getting to bolts at all

I fixed it. Well almost, itsa better than it was. I will perfect it this wkend. I thought the coupler could only go on 1 way. The gearbox shaft has one side cut off of it, so its not totaly round. I thought is the way that it went back on. The coupler can be put on at any position. Thats what i did, drove straight in my garage then took the coupler off and turned it untill the s wheel straight and put it back on.

Still can't figure out the temp gauge though. I think it is the sensor gone bad. It works when you first turn the truck on but a few seconds later the guage goes down to nothing. I unscrewed it a little and the threads have moved the thread tape and I can see brass threads, so I know it is getting ground.

Is the wire touching the headers? That could be a problem.

All after install problems corrected. Thanx for everyones help and efforts. Wynjammer is next, I am just waiting to get this job at verizon so I don't have to drive so much. Then????????????? Maybe 3.73 or 4.10 gears and locker (power trax no-slip), converter, driveshaft.

So, how are you liking the gain out of the headers?

So, how are you liking the gain out of the headers?
I like them very much. :thumbup_1 :thumbup_1 It was worth the pain and aggrevation. First thing that is the most noticable is throttle response. Revs quicker.I've noticed that it idles smoother. Smoother revs also. Next is under hood temp. Pop the hood after driving and it is alot cooler under there. And the best part is that they cool down fast, in about 15-20 min the headers can be cool enough to touch. Next is torque, better "get up and go" all the way through the rpm range. Very little change in exhaust sound or tone, but there is some. I want to make it to the track sometime this week to see what kind of gain I got, before I do the exhaust. I will post up the before and after numbers when I do that.

I installed a set on my ole ride about two yrs back now, I guess. I bought from
Truck Performance one weekend when they had a sale. 309. + change, I shipped
em to Rewarder Header to get coated. Took me about 4 days to install. I used
Mr. Gasket Ultra Seal gaskets with red sealant on both sides of the gasket at the
ports. Used it at the collectors too. I used small block header bolts and exhaust
lock washers. I torqued them down started it up and ran it, let it cool, same thing
over and over 6 times, 3 times driving it a bit then the re torque. Now I ck em once
every 2 or 3 months and they seem to have at last seated. In tight spots I'll
either use a thin walled socket ground down to make it thinner or use a crowfoot.
The bolt heads are 3/8 6 point. I'm pretty slow at doing things like this because it
is a PITA and I want to make sure I did it right. Not so much power increase at the
low end but get it up to 65 or so and hit it, the ride gets up to pegging the speedo
pretty quick. I've done some other things as well, but as far as installing headers,
wear a hat so you don't pull all your hair out... ;)
