Very well could be a 93. Correct me if I am wrong, but the CPI came out in late 92 (classified as a 93). TPI came out even in 94. They are still great little engines, just take care of it.

Transmission sounds like a 700r4. The only 2 chances is a 700r4 or a 4L60. Personally, I prefer the 700r4 over the 4L60. The 4L60 is an electronic version of the 700r4, and if your break switch goes bad, your truck may or may not shift correctly..... that thing is crazy.

Last opinion for your "toy"...
Take that 4.3 out and slam in a 396, LT headers, 9" lift, and 38 super swampers. Bet you could pick up a few in that....

MD8 is the generic RPO code. 18 just has something to do with that particualr casting. 8663548 could be the ID. There should be a flat spot just above the pan mating surface on the passenger side (rearward) with a code.

If it is a 93, it should be the 4l60E. Does it have a cable going to the transmission from the throttle body? Does the transmission have a plug? The TBI and the CPI were available from 92-95. I have never heard of a TPI 4.3L.

What are you trying to figure out about it?

the trailshaft has 4 bolts, i beleive the 4l60es have 6 bolts

just trying to figure out if its really a 93 engine thats all
as i thought 93 came with 4l60e

i'll check the other stuff later

and craz, i thought about a 350 but didnt want to worry about breaking my frontend to sht nor having to worry about overheating
v6 should gibe me plenty of pulling power
and the lift/tire combo you suggested sounds like a mall crawler to me lol
35s and 4 sl will be all i need :-)
ps
4l60 is just a renamed version of the 700r4...that i know of...4l60e is the computerized version
