I am picking up another truck tomorow and I need some help figuring out the part that it needs since it is 2 hours away. The truck is a 1991. He S10 Blazer 4.3. 4x4 and 4 door. He says it is leaking antifreeze from the passenger rear of the intake manifold. He says there is a water inlet that goes to the heater core.
First queston is what is this part? Can someone get a picture of it?
Could that be contributing to the overheating?
He said a mechanic told him the system needs to be sealed otherwise it would overheat. Is this true?
I tried to look at my 93 but mine is Vortec and it doesn't seem to have the same setup. Any help you can give me would be appreciated. I am getting it tomorow afternoon. Thanks guys!

I would say its the heater core hose and yes if you have a problem with that then you will have overheating problems....
Sorry I cant help any more than that.....are you buying the truck?
you can get a cardolly for the day for $50

This is the fitting that's on the back of the manifold. http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=SUM%2DG09630&N=700+115&autoview=sku
If the inside diameter is too big it could lead to an overheating issue, but is not that common IMO. The dealer, & some autopart stores, stock this fitting w/ a smaller outlet (not the barb end, that size will stay the same. I'm talking the inner pipe size at the barb).
IMO, it sounds to be a clogged heater core.
Are you asking if you could drive this thing w/ the radiator cap off to keep the system depressurized? I wouldn't. You'd end up spillin out most of the coolant & then have serious problems.. if that's what you're asking.
.. I like PBR, Schlitz, Old Style, Warka, Stroh's, Red Stripe.. hahaha.

He was saying that the leak was making it overheat. I didnt think a slow leak could make it overheat due to the fact that there is still water in the system. The way he explained it was that the water cannot boil in a sealed system since it just keeps circutating through. Once the system becomes unsealed the pressure has a place to escape, from what I understood anyway. I am getting this truck cheap so I dont mind some work.:D
And thanks for the info Jason!

When my radiator was leaking I didn't overheat & it still was riding about 205*.. & if I opened the rad cap to take a look I only had 1/2 a rad of coolant.
Just to be on the safe side I'd bring a car dolly or get a tow. Cheap piece of mind, IMO.

I am going to pick up a battery, some hose and the hose fitting so I can bypass the heater core. He said he took it around the block and let it idle for 30 minutes to test it and he didnt have an issue. Just in case, I have my tow truck guy on speed dial. Here are some picks of the Blue Demon!

Those are some pretty nifty looking tires and rims there. What are the plans with this truck?

Drive it so I can lift my red one, after that I don't know. I do like the way Tinks truck sits on that K5 frame! Hmmmmm! But that would be WAY off! Also looking at a possible quad cab conversion. Like this one, but with a shortened bed!

All of this depends on funds...If I cant afford 2 project this one may be sold to pay for the red one to be finished. We will see when I get it home and determine how much work it needs.

I got it ome! It a FVckin rust bucket! But...It has all the parts I need for my Blazer including my burnt window motor, cruise cable, window switches, and rear glass shocks. So, tomorow I start pulling parts off and cleaning up everything thats left over. I drove it home with no problems. All I did was throw a battery in it. The temp was dancing around 210 but as soon as it would hit the 210 mark it would drop back down to 180. My guess is the wrong thermostat. I will throw a 180 in this week. I think I am going to sell it and pay off "the man"!
