friend just got a hypertech for 96 gm trucks 4.3 thru 5.7 or whatever.....said i need to put in a 160 t-stat and start running premium gas.....what kind of power gains can be expected from the hypertech reprogramming? not sure if i want it or not based on what i can gain from it....premium is expensive here....lol

I think the gains are not worth the cost. The features to adjust for different gears, tires and a few other settings are good but that's about all.

I think it makes the truck a little quicker definatly a little more torque but the advantage of being able to use the other features is what makes it worth it hell just getting rid of the speed limiter was worth the money.

my buddy did his truck and said the gains were well worth it....thing is the only thing i am losing is a lil more per tank of gas i didn't pay for the programmer so i am gonna reprogram it...

I don't care much for the power gains but it was handy for the other stuff like Max said.

I've got one for my '99 Blazer. Got it mostly for the tire size part. Been foolin' around with it a little as of late. Took out everything but the tire part and it felt like a dog again. Put back in everything but the tune and it 's alot better. Only big difference that I feel is out of the hole. If I punch it from a stop, like I'm pullin' out it traffic, I can definately tell it doesn't have as much pull as it did w/ the program in. I definately love the shift firmness and shift point changes too.

The Hypertech tune does help because of our fastburn chambers (wicth love timing and compresson). I've seen gains as early as 1500rpms. The trans options are fun too.
