economies kick anal right aint it. Well To start off I haven't really decided where to start paintin under the hood. Kinda bummed my shortened cold air idea wont work but not everything works. Im probably gonna paint the K&N FIPK2 tubes and tb cover Olympic white along with other misc parts to match the exterior of the truck. Gonna scuff and do a prime basecoat and shoot the white after. Gonna get the dupont color match in the can its like 17$ a can here for a spray can but eh it lays down good. Me and dad finished one of his v65 maganas with it and it looks high quality.

Second gonna get the wire/hose covers to match the exterior.

ShowNgo4fun
01-05-09, 07:31 PM
Adhesion promoter on any plastic parts. Or buy the parts in the color you want.

csl2006
01-05-09, 07:32 PM
dont have the dough to be buying parts I dont need lol...I dunno though the new duplicolor is suppose to adhear to plastics? wonder how good it works.

I used adhesion promotor when I painted the dodge's mirrors and handles and it help just as good as on the body itself. It wasn't expensive either. I even used a cheaper primer. I think I got mine at Checker for $5. Worth it!

A-pillars are easy to get off. Just pull on them carefully. Theyre clipped in.

I went with filler primer to get rid of the "veiny" look of the plastics. I got both pillers shot in primer and lettin 'em dry over night since its cooling off rapidly outside.

This is what happens when you dont get it clean. Probably some armor all left on there so I had to sand it. Thank god I got sandpaper but sanded it shot it with somemore adhesion & primer and went on.

01-10-09, 06:18 PM
thanks josh. I think it was just to cold is why it ran. But I've painted before w/o any runs so I blame it on the cold :) lol. Just got done shootin a coat of clear on it. Wait a hr or so for the cold and go shoot another coat on. Gotta go beat my buddies tonight at poker so maybe get some money haha. I'll update tommorow.

csl2006
02-16-09, 08:32 PM

looks good, i was throwing around the idea of painting my interior, but after i did it looked like poop. soo i think im going to trim some diamond plate and put that on the interior pieces.

csl2006
02-17-09, 07:52 PM
well fuhk I ran out of fill primer...only had a real light coat on it...not even enough to make it look solid primer. Anyone know if I used adhesion promoter would it be alright just to paint it with the white/wet sand and clear it w/o any problems of it flaking off?

02-17-09, 08:54 PM
thanks boys. Well current update. Im debating on either to go ahead and spray the front dash (its hanging already in promoter coating) with white paint. I got a thin layer of primer on it already. I think if I get 6-8 coats of white on I can work it down real smooth and also get rid of the veiny look like I did the pillars. Well damn lol. Ok well guess im gonna go see what happens. Im gonna try to get this done for you guys quick because im anxious to see what the front dash panel will look like. Im also gonna do the speaker covers on the dash (just the outer lips not the inner parts of it) and some other misc parts. I gotta take some more pics of my interior and photoshop some ideas up first. I'll keep you guys updated. Thanks for looking and the comments!

You should buy some white trim for the interior. I have trim panels in white just for the headlight switch and climate control unit. It looks nice. Also, the gauges in white would look good too.

csl2006
02-17-09, 09:23 PM
well i taped off the headlight switch and the airbag switch and the vents to leave them charcol looking.

csl2006
02-17-09, 09:40 PM
Ok well you cant really see in the picture but it pitted just like the a-pillars. I even double prepped it this time. Cleaned it with cleaning solution twice. I think its the adhesion promoter. But anyways here's the first stage. I have to sand the son of a gun tommorow after work.

So....your keeping your truck

csl2006
02-17-09, 10:23 PM
Most likely ya. Nobody around these regions wants to even give me a reasonable price for it. I think 6,000$ is reasonable for it but whatever lol. Nah only thing Im trying to sell is the crotch rocket. 2 days and no calls. Damn stupid economy. Trucks being paid off within a month so guess i'll just keep it. Wont be able to do much work on it after I get a crap ton of dental work done so this project will probably slow back down in a couple months.

When I was repainting the interior of the T/A I had to use simple-green and a nylon brush to clean all the parts. I tried just using the plastic prep and regular wax/grease remover on a rag and it never worked well enough, I always got orange-peel. Probably from years of armor-all building up in the texture

csl2006
02-18-09, 08:51 PM
yup thats what im thinking. Its no biggy though the A-pillars did it and after sanding them the next coat layed down w/o any problems. Its suppose to be cold the next couple days so I wont be able to mess with it.

dusterbd13
02-18-09, 10:32 PM
i also wipe my interior stuff down with greased lightning and a scotchbrite pad, followed by wal-mart brand prepsol. hardly ever have fisheyes or pitting.

Michael

csl2006
02-18-09, 10:40 PM
we have some good prepsol at work im gonna "take" when I do some other interior stuff. Thanks for the advice everyone.

ugh im getting frustated. I sanded the whole dash again tonight to get the fish eyes and any soaked in armor that was stil in it...got her all smoothed down and shot some paint on it...still fish eyed again. I was right about this one being a b!tch.

02-21-09, 02:11 AM
Is it plastic? Did you use adhesion promotor? Did you degrease with rubbing alchohol? Were you being impatiet between coats? Do light coats and light sand between coats. Eventually you will have it perfect.

csl2006
02-21-09, 01:45 PM
yes yes yes to all...... used bully dog promoter...wiped it with denatured alochol, waited at least 2hrs between the light coats......ugh oh well i'll get it eventually Im broke now I cant even afford to go by rougher sandpaper to run the massive runs i put in it last night out of rage lol...

csl2006
04-03-09, 11:29 PM
actually there is no glare at all. My dad and uncle told me "oh the glares going to be bad". Nah I cant even see it reflecting in the windshield. Maybe thats because my windows are 5% tinted? lol

87wildside
04-04-09, 08:26 AM
I had my whole dash white...lol. The glare from street lights was horrible. The windshield would look white. Had to carry a towel with me to throw on the dash. Glad your not having the same problem.

Little update. All the hype saying I was gonna get this camaro I wanted well I said Phuck it. Im gonna start work on the s10 again. Plans

Although I live on a gravel road Im going to drop it 2/3"
French a new tailgate
Redo the exhaust
Rims dunno which yet
and either 3.73 or 4.10 gears

I hope to have 3-4 of them done in a years period.

csl2006
09-01-10, 08:17 PM
No updates. I plan on restarting the exterior of the s10. I wont have really nothign to sell unless my cousin doesnt want to by my roll pan or body kit (so may have those up for sale in feburary or march). I want to do away with the x body kit for ground clearance when i lower the s10. Nothing to drastic just probably a 2/3" drop for now. 17" torque thrust II"s (in black). Im going for a blacked out theme instead of chrome and flash. I'm doing away with the smooth roll pan and going to get a pan w/ hideaway hitch and also install a hitch for towing. SS silvy bumper will go on, along with a stock s10 grill but blacked out and center cut out/meshed in black. Tinted head lights/turns, and tail lights and i'll turn my bed into something useful for hauling misc. things like a good sized air tank, dirtbike gear, tool box, jack, spare etc topped off with a hard tenneu cover. Thats "krautzillas" goals for 2011.

csl2006
09-23-10, 05:51 PM
Well I got my new job. I start Oct 4. I'll be making 15.55$ hr roughly. Optional over time so i could make some big $$$ for side projects. Heres the current list to start off on the s10 after i get caught up on bills and some money in the bank.

Lower'd 2/3
17" rims, thought about torque thrust II's but now leaning more toward some drag racing rims
Re-paint the whole truck flat black
blacked out everything
denali seats
Future mods

salvaged 6 Liter motor from a GTO and t-56
ford 9" direct fit for camaros from summit (alluminum)
full tubb'd and caged
kenne bell supercharger only runnin stock boost (for awhile)
weld in 4" link rear frame section
Should have it all acomplished in 2years, fully tuned and ready for the track. Maybe sooner because i've been itchin to do this for awhile.
