i did a search on this and found nothing so......when my truck is running it seems like i can hear the motor in my sub....any help?? Michel? DMP?
Where do you have the amp grounded to? Make sure the metal is clean (no paint) and its grounded to the chassis.
Also, make sure the RCA cables arent routed near the power cable. This will induct noise if it is.

amp is grounded to the seat bolt, power wire is routed down the left side and rca cables are ran down the middle between the seats

X2. Make sure its (ground) to bare metal and it has a terminal on the end.
Power and RCAs go down different sides.
Other things are a bad ground for the source unit, battery has dead cells in it from being deep cycled. The battery smooths out ripples in current that the alternator produces and is the elecrical systems best noise filter.

I had a bad alternator noise in my sub. I bought a filter for the rca jacks from ratshack and never had the noise again.
indeed to check your ground. make sure your remote and ground wire from the radio are wired together too.

The good thing about the rca jack filter is when you go to raido shack ask if you can try it. That's what I did. I went out pluged it in and bingo no noise. So I bought it... So you don't even have to buy it if it don't work..

cool beans any ideas where i can get a good wiring kit on a budget
Noise filters work, but its not really fixing the problem. Theyre like a bandaid to a problem.

I look at it this way. No noise no problem....

i guess the best thing to do is take out my seats and console then lift the carpet and run the power and remote wire down one side and the rca cables down the other right? how do you hook up a capacitor and what length screws would i use to mount the amp and cap to the back wall of an extended cab? this is my first install ive actually done all by myself other than helping on my own stuff... i just did what the experienced person told me to do

Caps are polarized. - goes to a chassis ground. + from battery and to the amp.
Length of screws will be determined on what thickness your interior parts are. If UR attaching it to the metal thru carpet or you could be thru sound deadening jute-padding as well. 1" probably will suffice.
I might put a thin peice of scrap wood behind the carpet and screw to it if you can get it to be stable. Then no cab holes.
Yes, RCA down one side and Power Wire down the other. Just be sure upon reinstalling the seat you dont pinch the wires anywhere and also when ur screwing back in the plastic panels, you dont peirce the wire either.
X2, noise filters are bandaids. Check your battery. Just because it starts fine doesnt mean it has a dead cell or a weak cell. Check its ground too forcorosion or a loose body/motor ground. You never know and 7 out of 10 alt noise issues I ever ran into was cured with a new batttery.

what does a cap actually do? does it give you more power, or does it relieve strain on the alternator? get paid around the 28th so when i get it all done ill post up in my project thread

I have had rca's go bad on me. I can hear the motor rev through the speakers cause of the rca wires. I changed them out and it was gone.
A cap is like a small second battery to smooth out the drain on you alt and battery when your amp peaks the power drain....For the amp kit....look at ebay and also check out your local pawn shops. You can find great deals. While you are prepairing to do this, think of what you want as a final product. If you are thinking of expanding later get a kit with a distrabution block to split the power to multiple amps. Also attach RCAs to all of your outs and extra remotes. That way you do not have to pull the dash again... while you areat it, check the pawn shop for head units....you may want to upgrade on the cheap....maybe a monitor. Good luck...

as far as a finished product i just want a little more bump and i want a clean setup i already have a really good head unit but in the future i will upgrade to one of them dvd players that slide out of the dash and tilt up....im set on equipment since i have a pioneer deh-p9300 i think and a lightning audio 300 watt amp and a jl audio 12" sub in a sealed box...im just re wiring every thing because the previous owner screwed everything up
