My vehical is a 94s10 "W"vin 4.3 cpi4x4, ive had it about 2months n now ive got alot more into it then i planned..(Irrivelant but FRUSTERATING) With the help of this fourm i went ahead and tackeled the upper and lower intake manifold gaskets (Temp was about 230, had a small coolant leak n then what seemed to be an air leak after some time. plus NO POWER when pressing the pedal),N all forums indicated this was most likely my problem. when i removed the top I.manifold there was pretty excessive washing in the left side, so i went ahead and did the Fuel Preasure Regulator as well, As recomended by the fine gentelmen on this forum...... i made shure to keep track of the Orings for the fuel lines leading to the I.manifold, and before removing the distributure i taped the black cover as well as the block inorder to keep timing correct, i also taped the two peices of the DISTRIBUTURE under the cap that spun individually, however im not certin that all the tape matched up excatly.. After changing the oil when i got everything back togather it was running pretty rough, i jus figured the computer was relearning... i drove about 5 miles to my house and the truck struggeled the whole way there (only under 3000RPMs after that it smooths out)
Today(the next day) the truck is running even rougher, and my coolant temp is over 230 which is hotter than it was before the fix..... i also noticed that my fuel guage is dancing around alittle bit when i accelerate or let off the gas.... There are no external leaks and no bad smells. But its running worst than it did before.. does anyone have any idea why this is? Any help is greatly appricated ... thanks

Do you have a timing light? Disconnect the timing advance (Under the dash by the PCM) and check it.

Get a scanner and see if the gauge is inaccurate.

thanks for the quick reply, the thing is i dont have a timing light and to make my situation worse im not familiar with these motors, ive tried looking for threads about the topic on this site as well as zr2usa and cant seem to find any.. how exactly do you DISCONECT THE TIMING ADVANCE? also are these motors an interference type motor? i.e. will i be bending velves if i run the motor before timing it?

You should pm JONGO8. He is pretty good with the cpi motors.
Look in the open forum and there is a thread with his sn there.
Good luck!

could timing cause the motor to run hotter?
