So i finally got the darn thing in! I took it to the guy who i bought it from and had it in within 2 hours!!!! Good things happen when there is a lift to be used!!!
I am pretty happy with it! Good mod!
My complaint, Well kinda... I had a feeling something else would rear its head!
So before the zexel i had a bunch of wheel spin, now i have wheel hop.
Something i never had before. But it will be resolved!!!!
I can still burn both now tires off at a dead stop just punching it but the back end hops..
So money needs to be saved and i will probably get a set of the hellwigs that mike put on his truck since my truck is lowered and ground clearance is an issue.

Also another thing is you probably got the std springs (or ZQ8). If you have RPO Z85, then you got the HD rear springs and they will be stiffer. Thus less chance of wheelhop.
But read what I wrote to the PM back to you.

Finally!
The spring helpers like Mike has are a good & cheap solution. It's also how I'm going about hooking up on my Blazer because traction bars won't clear because I have lowering springs.
Another solution is, if you have stock height suspension, use traction bars. I have Lakewood custom fit (for the S trucks) traction bars on my Xtreme. They work great even though the ZQ8/Xtreme uses 1.5" drop springs.. no ill effects from using them as far as I can tell.. & it's been on the truck for the past 2-3 years. Lakewoods run about twice to 3 times the price of the helper spring & they decrease ground clearance, too.

Z85 code affirmed. Its on the truck already! I would like to be able to use traction bars or cal-tracs or slide-bars. But i am lowered.... I have 3" drop blocks on it.
So the only way i see is to do the hellwigs like mike did.
I wish there was something for our lowered trucks that helped with wheel hop and traction at the same time.

Cal-tracs are adjustible & could problably be tailored to work w/ a lowered truck. Could always make your own.. I know someone here is making them. I don't remember who they are exactly but I know they're here..

Nice upgrade! What size tire are in the rear? May help with more width!

More width increases the wheel hop he's trying to get rid of.. I personally feel the helper springs from Hellwig are your best option, & fairly inexpensive.

I am running 225/50/15.
I have no clue where to start making a set of them Jason. Nor do i have the place to make them unfortunatly. We are wanting to move in may when our lease is up but, I dont know if we will be able to.... Which SUCKS!!! But its life.

I think the helper springs will be the best also but am def open for options and info!!!!!!!
Pro, with the helper springs is that they are cheap!

Wide tires, Do you have a g80? Or other posi type dan? What about the leaf springs?
Do you know which ones you have? Have you done anything to help with traction?
Does it have the hop shock? What gears do you have?

I'm a little um lit but I know the rearsping's had five per side I think-
I'll go look, and the payload is something like 1625 or 1650lbs.
Dont most trucks come with three or four leafs? maybe 1000lb payload?
Back in a couple. no hop bar.

Well I now know theres only four leafs I thought it had five oh well anyhow,
foursprings, doorjamb decalsays 1625 payload and gears are 3.42. even though it is a p-up it hooks real well and yes the wider tires made it hook upmuch better-less tire spin=less or no wheelhop. Its only a 4.3 not a v-8 but it works for me.

I have 3 leafs with a helper. Well thats what i remember from this morning.
I also have the 3.42's But with my smaller tires i have a higher ratio.
They are wide. Not as wide as yours. Do you know what the overall height of your tries are? Mine is somethin like 24.5" tall
Do you have a posi? g80?

Hey josh I'm sure these guys have seen all the tricks when it comes to leafspring
vehicles, most of my life I owned musclecars with fourlink setups-GM A-Body.
my pontiacs seemed to have the worst wheelhop,a 442 I had and the chevelle
which I still own have had no issues with thatat all. The Cameo has little to no
hop-but I dont get in it and rag on it! in twenty years of owning the Cameo I probably have'nt done ten healthy burn outs. I will push it hard, but I dont smoke the tires often just for fun(old guy) I will race it!
Maybe we'll get together soon-I'll bring the Cameo it needs to be driven-next meet!
My tires are approx.10 inches wide.-treadwidth.

Just 2B sure, the Z85 springs will have a JAI logo on the topside of the front area and a GM part number stamped on....yellow I think.
But if you got Z85, then the Hellwigs should be enough to tame it on most conditions.
Mins skips and hops sometimes still...depends on how I lay into it and what the road surface is. With the 3.42s now I cant do a whole lot of throttle in 1st...gotta ease into it.

I waited for along time to get that darn thing in! So i am def happy!!! I bought the zex in jan of 08 and was installed yesterday... So its been a long time coming!
Now i need a set of those hellwig 550's to get rid of my wheel hop.
Once i get the hellwigs i will know what the difference will be since now when i romp on it from a dead stop or even 5mph roll it gets bumpy!

I googled the hellwig 550's, So my question. It looks like they are pretty much a generic part used for many other apps. Am i right?

Same part. Fits everything with the same width OEM leafs. Ours are exact.
