Today I installed my polished TB assembly. I removed the large lip, polished it and openied the tb bores a touch. As for gain, it was minimal. It wasnt as big a gain as say the instalation of a 4.3 tbi base plate, but that is in the future, as soon as I round up a new intake maifold. Anyway. As for difficulty i would give this project a 3.5 out of 10, the hardest part was machining the aluminum cuz it kept loading up my Carbide Cutter. It was an easy mod that will be complimented by the spacer that I have purchased adn am waiting for.

If you took the time to cut the TB on a mill, you aren't a hack ;) . With that said, when you get your spacer it will more than likely have the wrong hardware included with it. All the TB spacers I have came across come with SAE harware when intake manifold is drilled/tapped metric. A one inch space will require M8-1.25 X 90 MM hardware. I don't like to mess around either ;) :

The CFM-tech spacer I bought a few years back came with compatible hardware, cant remember if it's metric or SAE. Been quite a while since I took the TBI off, don't remember the sizes offhand. Regardless, it bolted up fine to the stock and the Edelbrock manifold.

I've been thinking about doing this mod, Tman. About how long did the cutting take? Whenever I can make it back to a junkyard I plan to pick up a TBI with the CTF-linkage and go at it. Got any pics of the finished product?

The SAE hardware *will* work, it is just very tight going in. I cut precision aluminum molds all day for the plastic industry.

If would take longer to set up and indicate in a TB to be cut than to actually cut it.

Hey matt, I can help you with that. I basically did the same thing but I didnt really want to take off the lip.

Also, you can't remove too much metal on the 4.3 TBI because the bores are so damn close to the bolts and stuff.
