Think my tensioner pulley may be going bad, i have this noise coming from the engine bay. Sounds like a bearing going bad, dad looked at it and said the tensioner may be bad. My question is if it breaks what damage will it cause ?
The problem didnt start until after my alternator locked down, i had it replaced and then came the noise. Its getting louder and has been going on for quite a few months now i just really havent payed any attention to it, until it started getting louder.
It wont break off, the pulley will seize up if the bearing gets bad enough and the belt will wear through the pulley, and the pulley through the belt which is no good.
Best thing to do is to loosen the belt see if there's play in the pulley (and or other accessories including alt) and spin the pulley by hand to see if it spins freely. There's an idler pulley too that can go bad, both are cheap.

I wonder if its the same one that they use on the 96 and up. If so then I think I have it out in the garage and its yours....just pay for shipping

I have just replaced both the idler and tensioner pulleys on my 93. I would suggest replacing the tensioner as well. The thing is when I bought mine at O'reilly's the tensioner came with the tensioner pulley and it was around $50. The idler pully was like $17 I think.
But if you just want to buy the pulley the tensioner one is like $23. I replaced both pullies only to find out the tensioner needed to be replaced as well. Good luck
