so i'm on my way home from work friday and my brakes seem a lil funny...truck was slowing down abnormally fast for just letting off the gas.brake hard and it pulls bad to the right. right before a complete stop and just when taking off from a dead stop it feels like the e-brake is on. pull the release wasn't on. so i call my dad and he says just to take it easy and he will look at it when he gets home. i get home and when i get out of the truck i smell and awful burning smell. look down and my entire front driver's side rotor is glowing red and melting and evaporating snow on the rim instantly. i took a pic with my cell phone just haven't quite figured out how to send it to myself to post it. so i figure ok the caliper is stuck and my dad says we gotta replace both sides. let it sit most of saturday and i drove it a little today to see if it had changed and brakes are fine. any one have any suggestions? i still plan on removing the brakes and looking at them. relubing the slides and cleaning them up. anyone else ever have anything like this happen? what's some advice?

stuck caliper. replace the rotor, if you got it to glow, it probably warped. Good time to do a complete brake job. BTW, make sure you replace all the grease in your hubs, you probably cooked the hell out of it.

I'm with T man on this one, it was probably because of a stuck caliper spring. You are most likely going to have to replace at least the brake that stuck. If it wasn't that, your proportioning valve could have something to do with it(possibly gunk in one of the valves).

I would replace EVERYTHING! I know it's not cheap but neither is your life!

You can reuse the bearings, lines, and if your good and really clean rebuild the calipers!

id trash the bearings. if they got that hot, there is a good chance it cooked the grease in them leading to premature wear on them. If it were me here is what I would replace

Rotor (duh)
Bearings
Pads (duh)
Caliper (possibly, have someone who knows what they are doing make sure it is ok)

If the bearings look like a polished headder after it has been run (blued in some places) or has any resistance, trash it and dont look back.

I doubt the proprotioning valve has anything to do with it, as they are to make sure the back drum brakes dont get as much pressure as the front disc brakes do. If anything i would point to a metering valve, but that is in the last circumstance
