View Full Version : Some lift ?'s

It's been awhile, but I gotta do something with spring rolling around. I want to do it all at once, so there are a couple questions here. Some I think I am sure of, others I need to re-clarify.
1)Do the replacement leaf springs actually lift the truck and haul more weight, or am I still at the 5500(?) weight limit? I don't like the idea of just extending the shackles.
2)Do the spring helpers add more capacity, or are they just to help the 2WD models? Descriptions aren't real clear.
3)For the front, if I buy different torsion bar keys, do I need to buy the kit with the upper control arms? I'm not sure if they include those to not pull on the stock upper so much or to adjust camber far enough. I though you could adjust the stock arms out far enough to correct the camber?
4)What is the best 2-3" suspension lift kit? In your opinion...
5)Is it possible that my cousin's 95 extended cab S10 sits better(higher) than mine because my torsion bars may be sagging, or is it because his stabilizer is mounted below the A-arms and mine is above them?
6)Good place to buy new torsion bars?
Thank you guys/gals!

you may just simply need some shackles... but if you dont want to go that route, maybe getting some new leafs would be good too. Im looking into that myself, but I also dont want to pay a pretty penny either.
I got the 1.5" shackles and it took care of my rear end sag. But Im not really sure how wasted my leafs are. I wouldnt be surprised if mine are.
Im guessing you're doing the 2-3" for looks and gas economy more than serious offroad? Im not experienced in that field quite yet... Im going for 6" SuperLift in the future.

My dad had his leafs re arched and added an add a leaf to his 91 Suburban and it raised his truck 3". After a few year those leafs sag. I am going with the Rough Country 2" kit since it seems to be a good deal for the money but I don't know how good it is yet because I havent ordered it. I will let you know though. http://www.roughcountry.com/chevy_4wd_s10.html

Ya, def like fuel economy, but I really just want it to sit a bit nicer. sits like a 2wd-LOL! Wanna do suspension, then maybe, maybe a 2" body.
I would LOVE a 5" lift, but I would also like to be able to put things in bed easily yet.
RoughCountry is the one I found also.
Didn't someone make a 3" lift, but the only way ou could get a front diff lowered was with the 5" and 6" lifts?

Anyone have an idea as to if the rear leaf will actually add to the towing capacity(minus braking ability) or are all the ones I'm seeing just to add to the 2WD or replace the same strength as the 4WD?
Gonna look for these 3" kits...

SHOWNGO-Why did you sell a 5" lift?!
I really think I'm going to just wait and get a 5" lift. They're only about $1500. however, I almost want to just get new rear springs and do the 2-3" susp lift first to see what it looks like. Don't want to waste money though by still wanting a higher lift.

I sold mine for $800 on ebay. I couldnt afford everything I needed, mainly the tubular control arms. I am going to buy the rough country kit and I might try to buy another TM kit later. Might do SAS. At this point I just want to get it lifted to clear the tires I have on it.

Anyone find a good deal on new rear leaf springs? How about new, possibly stronger, torsion bars?
Don't know about the torsion bars, but JCWhitney has good prices on springs. Bought some for my K5 through them.

Yep, I checked JC-$131ea. I have a code for 20% off that lasts until tomorrow or one for free shipping over $50 purchase.
Load rating is 1350lbs.
Anyone know the stock weight rating on the leaf springs?
