View Full Version : truck hard to start in after sitting over night ?

hey guys on my 97 jimmy i have been having some fuel problems .....first off i had the fuel pressure would drop off as soon as the truck was shut off and would not build it back until i started turning it over which took alot of cranking to get going lol ....so i replaced the fuel pressure regulator and now it holds pressure but im still having problems starting it in the morning but if i give it a small shot of starting fluid lol yah poor motor ...it fires right up and runs perfectly ? any ideas?:confused:

I would say the fuel pumps not priming.
Can you here the pump run when you turn the key to run?

hey guys the pump will build 50-55 psi when i turn the key on it drops to about 45 over night ill double check it tonight again ......im gonna change my fuel filter again just incase i have some ice or crap built up from ****ty gas ?

and yes i could hear the pump run when the key was turned on is it possible for a pump to lose its prime when i still have fuel pressure ?

If the pump is holding prime it shouldn't loose pressure.

When my pump went it would do the same thing. It seemed fine but it was hard to start first thing in the AM. Now that is when it starts first crank and it cranks a couple times in the afternoon.

alright im hioping its my pump i started it this morn and it turned the key on and off 3 or 4 times and it started n stalled the once more and it started i could here the pump each time then it would start right up how much is a pump worth roughly ? i also bought a shop manual this morning to help me out i will leave a fuel pressure gauge on it tonight and see if it drops off tommorow morning
