I just decided that I want to get some bass in my truck, and I have always liked having one sub that sounds better than others that have 2 or more. So my idea is to have one 12" sub that hits pretty hard, but I don't have alot of $$ right now, b/c i'm starting to bag it. I have a Alpine CDA-9830 HU and a soundstream 500/1 amp but I don't know what sub to go with. I really don't want to spend much more than $200 less if possible. Any ideas?

i would go for mtx i have 1 12" mtx thunder 6000 paid 80 bux for it cuz i was broke and it hits hard...this summer i hope to spend a lil and get an alumapro...i have heard nothing but good things about them and all the ones i have heard hit very hard with lil to no rattle or extra noise from the sub.....pioneers aren't bad either
JL JL JL!!!!!!! Get a JL 12w3. You will not be let down. I ran a single 10w3 and pushed 138db before I blew it

I just put 2 jl 10w3v2-d2. i wish i had gone with d4, but these sound pretty jam up even at 4ohm. I upgraded from kenwood and yes the jls cost some dough but are well worth the money.

I had 2-CVR 10's on this amp with the gain all the way down and I could smell them burning so I'm scared of one of those.

audiobahn aw1200q is what i got and it hits hard. i got mine for 85 from www.caraudiodeals.com
audiobahns are more for show. if you start hammering on them they crapout pretty quick. fosgates are good subs. i personally don't care for the sound or the service department you have to deal with, but they can take a beating.
JL... what can I say. I've put a set under water and after they dryed out sounded just as good as they did before. I've done the same and a little worse with a set of orions, but i don't even know if they make orions. fortunatly I've grown up and now realise that 4x4s don't float.
Alpine or Infinety. Then JLs.

I wouldn't recommend sony...one of my friends had sony xplods and he actually got one to literally explode(ironic, huh?)

back when they 1st started making xplodes they did it quite frequently...and no, i would never reccomend anything sony for car audo!
sony is a whore brand now that that walmart has a contract with them.

Well the walmart line of pioneer does pretty much suck, the premier stuff from what I have seen is the only descent stuff they sell.
I bought a cheap pioneer (not a walmart pioneer) before I even got my license and as far as I know it still works to this day. I got it over 5 years ago and right now its in the back of the ex girls car. and I've bought other pioneers that have always worked pretty good. but unless you buy one of the better ones they dont really slam that hard.
My personal opinion for all around performance (in this order) from what Ive actually used or heard:
1) Velodyne (if you can find one and theyre spendy)- Prob. the most accurate I have ever heard. Even worth converting an old home driver for that sound
2) JL- Sounds great, hits hard, lasts forever, great value. Bit spendy for the big dogs
3) PPI- Will never blow up swear to god. Been using mine for 4 years and bought it used after 5 years of hard use and it still hits great and sounds great. Longest lasting sub Ive heard
3) Alpine- Sound is pretty good, handles a bunch. Very versitile.
4) Polk- Great home theater upbringing = great sound.
5) Eclipse- Will handle what you throw at it. Seen an old alumy plugged into a wall outlet for 5 mins and still played fine.
6) Kicker- Obnoxiously loud if you like that stuff.
7) Infinity- Good sound, pretty versitile. Good value
8) Fosgate- Cheap n easy. Sounds alright, works well, lasts for a while.
9) MTX- Same as fosgate, but I just perfer fosgate.
10) JBL- Being great at arena speakers doesnt mean you can make car subs
99-3000) Anything at walmart, sony, pioneer, lightning audio, blaupunkt, etc. You get what you pay for and with a true 500 W peak or 500 W RMS all of these will be destroyed.

i wont say they suck. yes, they are the cheaper models and have less features. but they are still quality made and sounding. no, i dont have a $100 cd player from walmart. but im just stating the fact that pioneer, for the prices is one of the best out there.

dont knock blaupunkt. theyve never been big in the sub department but i have a set of full ranges and they out hit everyone around me. these with the addtion of an aduiobahn high excursion 12 and a power acoustik amp is killin the bass lines. buy i caution you from buying the subs from blaupunkt
your right on the blaupunkt subs. They'er good subs if you like clasical music. I really like blaupunkts componet speakers though. Their heads are ugly(really nasty look for a custom truck), but you woun't beat their sound quality.
back to pioneer and walmart. Pioneer is a whore brand too cense they got the contract with wally world, but they'er slowly recoveing with their high end radios that are not included in wal-marts contract anymore. find an early 90s late 80 HU and campair it to todays pioneer and you'll see what I mean. I have my first HU witch is a pioneer tape deck and I would put up against anything out right now(with the exseption of alpine or clarion)

Yeah, the subs were all I was talking about with blaupunkt. Their full ranges are just decent (my opinion), but Ive heard half a dozen of their subs and all have been atrociously sounding and a few have imploded.
