My uncle picked up a huge pontoon boat and we are getting it ready for the season. It is made out of 2 B-52 Bomber drop tank and is a little over 20 feet long. It has 10 fishing pole mounts and a itty bitty 30 HP Mercury Mariner outboard. The previous owner painted it with some sort of house paint so it looks bad now. Neither of us know anything about outboards so this is a learning experience trying to get it functioning.
This past weekend we got it to fire up but we do not know how to shut it off. We had to disconnect the fuel line to kill it. Is there a wire that grounds it out or what else could I be missing? Do these motors have an alternator? If so, how big are they usually? If you know anything about outboards I would appreciate it if you could answer a couple questions about the motor and possible upgrades.
I am currently wiring up a new CD player and 4 speakers. We are putting in an auxilary battery, a few cigarette lighter plug ins, and some lighting for night fishing. Eventually we will get it soda blasted and use the roll on bed liner to paint it grey with shark teeth on the pontoons. Should be another fun project. Here's a pic and a pic of the B-52 Bomber the tanks came off of.
I coudnt get the boat pics to load. I will try when I get off work.
The tanks are at the end of the wings. They look TINY on that massive plane
