Whats the top speed of your 4cyl?

I have had mine up to 130mph.

Whats the top speed of your 4cyl?

I have had mine up to 130mph.

What gears and what RPM were you pulling at 130mph?

I still have the governor so 94 for me. I need to splice into my VSS one of these days.

Stock 4.10's and somewhere around 4000 oh yeah I do have a 5spd.

Stock 4.10's and somewhere around 4000 oh yeah I do have a 5spd.

Your speedometer may be off a little. At 94mph with 3.73's and in fifth gear I'm pulling about 3800. I think to reach 130 you would have to at least be over 5000 RPM's.

importmaster1300

Nope, I just bypassed the speed gov.

Here is the formula for figuring top speed...

MPH= [(pi) x (tire diameter) x (60) x (RPM)] divided by [(12) x (5280) x (final atio)]

If you plug in your numbers using 4.10's with a .83 overdrive ratio

130= [(3.14) x (27???) x (60) x (RPM)] divided by [(12) x (5280) x (3.403)]

it comes out to 5500 RPM which is obtainable with a 4 cylinder just not at 4000 RPM's and 4.10's.

What size are your tires?

ZR1-S10
11-05-04, 06:28 PM
And Inportmaster where were you that you could get up to 130mph?

importmaster1300
11-05-04, 11:22 PM
I-5 and as soon as hit 130 I hit the brakes because I knew the tires would go if I didnt.

ZR1-S10
11-07-04, 02:20 AM
What are your tires rated at? Did you think you'd top out because of drag or RPM. With higher speed tire's what do you think you can make?

importmaster1300
11-07-04, 03:58 AM
p205/75r15
is that what you read to tell the speed and stuff?
I am pretty sure if i had badass tires i could get some where i could hit like 140 or so.

ZR1-S10
11-07-04, 03:22 PM
That's the tire size. It look like you've got the stock ones that are only rated for 108mph. Stock rating is "S".

importmaster1300
11-07-04, 07:26 PM
yeah their stock tires

joker2040

I don't think I could get my 4.3 up to 130. I have had it past 100 but I'm afraid to hit a govenor while spraying a 100 shot of juice. I guess I would have to get my buddy to get beside me on his bike because he would be able to keep up with no problem.

what is the stock ratio in a '98 (2.2 of course) i've only had mine to the governor, lists at 94 on 235/60/15s....

sorry dudes, but I gotat call BS on this one...a 2.2L having enough room to hit 130? and at 4K rpm...?? o yeah speed gov on my truck is 97 mph proof...
(may only show 96 b/c it was very shaky takin the pic and i think it had just bounced off

Urrrrrggggg..I have argued w/ someone @ s-10forum about this before. You cut a wire on the back of the tranny and you bypass the speed sensor.
As far as the rpm I wasnt really looking I just said it was AROUND 4000 I was trying to watch the road as much as possible. Yes you can go 130mph w/ a 2.2l.

miself_s10
11-18-04, 11:37 PM
i know this about the switch..im jsut saying a k&n, bosch spark plugs, an e-fan and synthetic oil isnt gonna give that 2.2 the power to get up to hat spped in less than an hour

Can't you just have someone in passeger seat in your truck taking the pics? What do you need another car for?

importmaster1300

the speedo drops to 0 and you lose the ABS

s10cyncrvr
11-19-04, 11:00 AM
You can buy a GPS unit for an ATV and use that to tell your speed. Much more accurate then the drive-along method. I think you have too many variables to get an accurate measurement. Like I said before you would be turning 5500 RPM and that is without any wind resistance or rolling friction factored in.

I had an 89' s-10, 2.5L 5-speed. I blew a 2" diameter hole in the #2 piston going 80mph one night. the fastest I had it up to was about 95 and it wouldn't go much faster, sounded like it wanted to blow up. that truck was not made for speed.

If you have a manual transmission, you can disconnect the speed sensor and that gets rid of the speed limiter.

Kinda' senseless on a 2.2 though. Stock they can't even hit 110 downhill with a tailwind. Regardless of what you may read, that kind of hp against the wind and rolling resistance of an S-10 just won't do it. The math ain't hard to figure.

Why not just splice into it so you can still have a speedometer..I take it you've never had a 2.2 they WILL go 110 stock your "math" is wrong...if you dont beleive me why dont you try it?

"Power

The power required to overcome the aerodynamic drag is given by:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/math/d/5/7/d578cac564b3955cc8186985cba66547.png Note that the power needed to push an object through a fluid increases as the cube of the velocity. A car cruising on a highway at 50 mph (80 km/h) may require only 10 horsepower (7.5 kW) to overcome air drag, but that same car at 100 mph (160 km/h) requires 80 hp (60 kW). With a doubling of speed the drag (force) quadruples per the formula. Since power is the rate of doing work, exerting four times the force at twice the speed requires eight times the power. Of course, if you are going twice as fast, you would get to your destination in half the time. Thus the total energy consumption would be 4 times higher (instead of 8 times higher).

It should be emphasized here that the drag equation is an approximation, and does not necessarily give a close approximation in every instance. Thus one should be careful when making assumptions using these equations."

(Unknown author. Source: Wikipedia)

Let's use a typical 2.2 S10 for an example. Dragstrip ET's are a pretty good reference point. A decent ET and speed for a 2.2 is about 11.5@60mph in the 1/8 and 18.2@75 mph in the 1/4 mile. To accelerate from 60 to 75 mph (a 15 mph increase) takes 6.7 seconds. To accelerate the next 15 mph is going to take at least 15 seconds. To accelerate another 15 mph is where it gets tough. The wind resistance has quadrupled twice. To reach 105 mph is going to take at minimum another 30 seconds. To get that last 5 mph (to reach 110) with 120 hp in an aerodynamic brick is gonna be tough.

Yes, I have driven many 2.2 S10's. 10 years at GM dealerships (out of a 24 year career) has given me quite a bit of seat time in various vehicles. Not trying to start an internet argument (which is really fruitless) just putting out basic facts as there is soooo much crap where speed/et claims are concerned.

Could a stock 2.2 S10 reach 110 mph? Hmmmmmmm, maybe. Any claims past that? BS.

A good example would be a 2.8 Chevy Lumina (Eurosport no less!) that I owned. Rated at 130 hp. Stock speed limiter was 110 mph. Flat out for over a mile and a half, I couldn't hit the speed limiter. Finally, caught a slight downhill and hit it. Aerodynamically cleaner by far, more effecient with the front wheel drive and 10 more hp.

But Sparky, his ain't stock. He's gots lots of bolt-on's, like um.....blue tubing, and uh.....some pully's. Plus some other stuff. You know that alll adds up.

So really the formula in this case should read http://upload.wikimedia.org/math/d/5/7/d578cac564b3955cc8186985cba66547.png*B^2+Pi then divide that all by 3000lbs. That is if it's Wednesday....and not raining. Then possibly you'd subtract for Friday and some snow. Or is that heavy winds at your back? It's all a bit technical, but you get the point.

As you can clearly see the varibles don't lie.

i have a bone stock 2000 s10 4 cyl 5 spd company truck. i am lucky if i can get it to 80mph to pass. very rarely can i even hit highway speed before the on ramp ends. it is horribly slow. the 2.2 just dosn't put enough power to move a truck of its weight that fast.

130 mph in a s-10, lol do you have pictures of this s-10, take pictures of the work you did to amek thisd fo 130 lol, jsdt like others said Iw ant to see some proof beofre I believe this one, evn tho Ido because a 4 banger can rev out pretty hard just not to quick, takes along time but once they do rev out they do, but who knows.. lol..see it when I belive it..

The 2.5 is a torquey motor but runs out after about 4,500 rpm. I had mine up to 105 or so and thought the motor was going to come apart at that rpm, poor thing was screaming for mercy. I have no idea about a 2.2 on top end but the 2.5 would whoop up on them off the line. I say no way to 130!

Well this wont die huh? It has been over 3 years but I will admit now that I am a little wiser, I really dont think it was 130. I am pretty sure it will do 120mph but thats it. Now that I have ALOT more **** on it than I did when I posted before. I dont try to go that fast anymore, since I have bags and 20's now. I have since hooked the VSS back up and I can deal with it governing out @ 95. I hit the limiter at about 3800 now. I wouldnt want my pushrod 4 cyl running @ 6000 rpm's very long. Especially since it has 140,000 on it now.

My '92 Toyota pickup can do 130. A little dryer duct to the throttle body, roll all the windows down, you know so the air just passes right thru and out the rear sliding window, really streamlines it. I duck a little behind the steering wheel so I don't personally become part of the wind drag.

I got all the ideas off of that Bugs Bunny episode where he races the turtle. Just chock full of aerodynamic improvement tips.
Another good source of info is from a Simpons cartoon....speed holes....need I say more?

I got helium in the tires to make them easier to roll. I drained all the oil too, cuz you know all that oil in there just creates friction on the rotating assembly.

Oh....and I got a cardboard air dam. No wind turbulence under this ride. No sir.
