The T5 in my 4cly S10 was making a grinding noise just as I let the clutch out in 1st and sometimes 2nd. Thought for sure I had syncro problems inside the tranny.
After removing the clutch and tranny, I noticed that the pilot shaft bushing was nearly gone and the input shaft play excessive. What was happening was when the clutch pedal was let out, the clutch plate would wobble and rub "just barely" against the pressure plate....thus the grinding sound until the clutch locked up.
The inside of the tranny looks new, fluid is clean and no metal fragment at the bottom and the syncros sharp.
The input shaft bearing race shows some signs of wear. Going to replace the bearing, race, shims and front seal.
Called the following business and was treated great and the parts showed up immediately...keep them in mind for parts. Ran my "in hand used part numbers" by them and learned that this 4 cylinder 2wd truck actually has a V6 T5 from the factory in it.
