A friend from another GM truck forum had sent me a Lock Right unit that he wanted to use on his DD and than discovered he already had a LSD, so I had wanted to make it my sunday project.

My folks have gone outta town for a week and a half, and I'm house sitting for them and taking care of their animals. I figured I would "borrow" the garage.

My intention was to tackle the locker today, and next tues & weds (my next days off from work) I would tackle a new oil pan on my SBC where as the old one has a major leak at the front lip seal where it meets the timing cover.

And than I hit a snag, a major snag. Only half of the lockers center section would fit into the carrier.

I mic'ed the outside locker pieces in the carrier with a gap of 1.560"... I mic'ed the center section of the locker peices @ 1.756"

Crap, the locker is to be used in the older 30 spline GM 10 bolt 8.5" rear ends, not the newer 30 spline GM 10 bolt 8.6"

So, instead of calling it quits I decided to take on the oil pan project.
Thank god the newer GM trucks are made so the frame crossmember directly under the oil pan unbolts and drops down off the frame!

The new pan and gasket went back on without a hitch, and I can already see the lip of the new pan lining up with the TC cover a hell of alot better than the old one. I sure hope this takes care of that narly oil leak.

As for the locker, I will probably order a new one that is actually made for my app, there is no way I'll put her back together with an open diff.

Soon my left wheel will be able to look like my right

I just dont have the resources. If I had one hell of a lathe in a machine shop I'd probably be doing that right now

I hope your luck with that Powertrax is better than mine was. I put one in my 96 Ram 1500 with 4.10's. It lasted 8 days. Replaced it with an Auburn. That lasted a little over 110,000 miles.

Wich one did you get, the Lock Right or the No Slip?

Since this lock right wouldn't fit I ordered a No Slip

I had the LockRite for 8 days. No experience with the NoSlip.

I installed a Lock-Right into my 1992 S-10 last year. I have 10,000 miles on the truck since the V-8 swap and the locker install. I have no complaints about it. The locker works very well, it is very noisy, makes some pretty scary noises when its cold. If i let the truck sit in the cold weather up here in Maine, the first engagement and corners tend to pop and snap a bit, but always come out of it. Sometimes it sounds like i'm going to drop the rear end right out of the truck, but its all worth it when i drop 2nd gear and go to 2 wheel peel! I'd buy another one, well worth the money.

You're right about it being noisy. In a turn, it clicks like a FWD car with a bad CV joint.

The no slip is the smoother quieter versiion of the lockrite locker. It is supposed to be good upgrade especially for street trucks.

Mike...Is the lockrite that you have for an S10? I could use one for the front end.

To be quite honest, I do believe the s10's use the same 10 bolt 8.5" 30 spline diff carrier as the fullsize gm's
