View Full Version : Sold New 1.5 Ratio Aluminum Roller Rockers
Here is a set of 16 Aluminum Full-Roller Rockers and Studs. These are the same standard 1.5 ratio that our trucks run, just a little more sturdy, lighter, and smoother running.
I'm not sure on the brand, the packaging doesn't really say, and I can't remember.
I'm asking $50 plus shipping, for the full set.

Seems like a really decent set. I like the blue on them.
Doh, my original post said set of 8, it's a set of 16, 2 per cylinder if you have a V8. So a V6 you get some spares.

Are any modifications necessary to make them work on a bone stock 1991 4.3?
Wow, sorry I missed this question. Unfortunately I don't know about a 1991 4.3. I was told they were a drop in replacement for the 1996 and later 4.3L.

I think their just stock replacements. You can get a different ratio rocker, same effect of putting a mild cam in it...more valve duration.
These ones tho I believe are a STOCK replacement.

Should be actually 1.5's to. Stamped steels are not right on I hear. So a stock stamped rocker might not be exactly 1.5. So with all that said, there should be a improvement but probably not noticeable.

Wait, your 02 already has a roller fulcrum rockers. So there would be even less of an improment I guess.
Russ if I were you, I'd get a set of 1.6s. they'll just bolt on to your heads with no problem. guys like Scott and I or anyone who owns a 4.3 with 96-99 heads have to mod our heads a bit if we want full roller 1.6s.

They're still an improvement. Now if you were planing on a cam and needed an ajustible valve train, then here ya go.

You would have to be sure and check for push rod clearance with 1.6's on 00+ heads too. Atleast thats what I've been told by a few guys.

Oh yeah, I remember that quote from crewcabsonoma (s10F) that you posted in a different thread.

so 1.6s are direct bolt on for me? k.. cool.. what kid of improvments will i see with those? or do i need to combo it with anything? im still learning the internal stuff.
You can use the same push rod can't ya? You still got-em?

how would i solve the clearance issue? bigger covers? they make em

I'm still learning about modding internals as well, but what I've read and by whats been discussed in other threads is 10-12 or so HP increase in just the 1.6s, due to increased valve lift like Jay stated. But they make a great combo when paired with a cam and tune.

yes, if you're going to reuse them, they MUST go back in the same spot they were taken out of. If not they will wear quicker.

Yeah Ed. I'm pretty sure. As long as they're self aligning rocker and your not using pushrod guideplates.
Russ I think 1.6's might give you 10hp I guess? If that? It'll be an expensive few hp's for full rollers.

I think you'll be okay as far as valve covers go. Your heads may need to be machined for pushrod clearance. (pretty much, by what I understand, got to bore the top of the pushrod hole a bit so it doesn't rub. I'm just posting what I've read so I may not be entirely correct, I'm still learning.

You know the hole in the head that the push rod goes through and sits on top of the lifter? With 1.6 rockers, since they lift higher there is a chance that the push rod might hit the edge of that hole from what I understand. So that hole will have to be opened up a bit. Also, since the poly locks are so tall they won't fit under the plastic valve covers. So you can with spend a sh!t load on some fancy ones or get the old style metal 4.3 enter bolt covers and use a gasket for them too.

Not to me. The ones D-caf has listed with a 266 or 270 cam would give a lot more bang for your buck. If you were to do a cam swap, you would need those anyways, from what I understand. Since the cams require an adjustable valve train and stock is net lash and not adjustable.
Anybody else notice that we hijacked the sh!t out of an Admins thread? Sorry D-caf.

ok hold up, now I'm confused. So he would have to use the taller covers if he went FULL rollers? But since he has the roller fulcrum already from the factory, he couldn't use just a roller TIP rocker, since that would be going backwards, right?

Right.
You know how a lot of folks say a 4.3 is a 350 with 2 holes missing? That really isn't entirely true, seems like you have to do a lot more in order to run roller rockers and a bit bigger cam. For don't you have yo have a lot of head work done with the 4.3's?
It's all too confusing for me,think I better leave well enough alone.lol
The reason I was asking about the push rods is, when you switch over to roller rockers on a small block, you have to use a chrome molly pushrod, or at least the chrome molly tipped ones.Depending on the cam size you don't have to have screw in studs, but it's recommended. Don't have to have any headwork done unless you have heads milled.
I don't know if I am totally correct on this, but it's what I've seen done in the past.Might not be a good idea,on some of it, but I've seen it done.

u still got these rockers
Holly Crap, what the hell happened to this thread, I leave for like 2 hours and....
Nah it's ok, someone pinged me about the rockers and when I looked back at the thread realized I had missed someones question.
The biggest benefit of installing these rockers is not so much any direct performance increase, but the strengthening of the internals to prepare it for other power modifications.
And yes I still have them, but currently they are on hold as someone want's to purchase them. I'll update the thread when the sale goes through.
Thanks!

I like to revert to this thread not because it was my build but listed all the trails and tribulations of not knowing what to buy and where to start. It includes part #'s and pricing on how to install a cam although never finished. It is not as confusing as you might think and head work is not necessary depending on the spring selection.
Read this and it will answer a lot of your questions with input from everyone on the forum:

BTW, D-Caf has some Rockers for sale ;)

Very good info, for those that is thinking about or wanting to take that step.
I'm sure once you start on the install, it's a learn as you go process, for those that have some what of an idea to what's going on.And it's probably easier than what it looks, and probably is for those that have already got their feet wet.
Didn't really mean to take over the thread, and I apologize to D-Caf for that, but I think all we was doing, is just weighing the pros and cons,so to speak. Nothing wrong at all, by no means with a roller rocker upgrade.
How much shipped to edmonton alberta canada t5g 2b8? I got paypal

I've got two people ahead of you right now in the queue to purchase them. If they fall through I'll ping you with a estimate. Thanks though!
And fear not, no offense taken to the thread high jack. Going the rocker upgrade is generally something left for people who are really looking into building out their engines, not just the casual modder, so nothing on this thread takes away from the value of the item.
Plus, if I was really offended all your posts would be deleted and you would all be banned by now :saevil:
