View Full Version : Wire cutters and crimpers
I have done my fair share of wiring in vehicles and with good cutters and crimpers the less painful
first one is your dollar general

usually aren't sharp and just plain suck
next is pretty basic

nice and sharp heavy duty and crimps real well. probably goes $25-30 just depends on make.

i use the crap outta this. Cut's and strips in seconds. i could only find these through Cummins tools and the local tool truck for $20.

Yhe KLEIN's are the ONLY crimpers you will ever need.
That all-in-one genero BS never works.
Klein also makes great strippers.
Yup...Klein makes the best strippers, IMO. Something like this works wonders.

ah u dont need crimpers just twist the wires together with ur fingers unless u cannot remove the juice from the line
twist and shrink wrap its expencive but worth it those little conectors not worth it for me unless im binding a 3-4 way splice their harder to make sticktogether
ive always used mastercraft strippers somtimes dificult to use that one striper is a nice setup

I wouldnt twist and shrink, That is asking for disaster. If you dont use a connector you need to solder it. I usually use a connector and shrink tube.

I have a Klein myself.
if you shrink wrap you should solder then shrink wrap.

They don't work well on weatherpack connectors. I got a Blue Point PWC47 for those.

just for info, the factory doesn't even solder their twist splices at the factory, but tells us we have to at the dealership, I wonder why----maybe because they are too cheap to use solder

I must have about 10 pair of strippers from over the years. Favorites are as follows the Big Kleins like shown above the Old pair of Blue Points multi do it all's had them for about 15-20 years. Then I have a pair of Klein multi gimmicks for around the house wiring ie light switches ceiling fans etc.

Personally I use all klein electrical tools but their strippers. Strippers I use Ideal, have had them last much longer than any of the offering from klein. I also use mine daily as an electrician.
Those multi tool stripper and the cut/strip gimmicks tend to cut the strands on fine stranded wire and nick solid wire creating hot spots. We always have a few apprentices show up every year with a pair and they only last a few days before they go buy the real strippers. They belong on the shelf with the as seen on tv crap cause there is a reason they give them away as freebies.

Need to get a weathepack crimp tool soon.
These have interchangeable dies to make your own plug wires.

I love xkcd, and that one was hilarious.
IDK what brand because I stole them in my younger stupid years from a previous employer, but this is the best style, IMO... Simply awesome strippers. Just google automatic strippers till you find these... You will be happy...
