View Full Version : Narrower Driveshaft???

My driveshaft is hitting my floorboard and I'd really love to NOT hack up my cab.

Any idea if there are "narrowed" driveshafts out there for regular cab S10s? Or maybe where I can get one made?

TIA!!

i can tell you exactly where you can get one made... go to Eastern Products in South Williamson KY and ask for Larry Christian...he is my uncle and would make you one on the cheap

You think he'd do shipping?
That's quite a drive for me lol

You mean a smaller diameter shaft. Personally, you should figure out a way not go to a smaller dia shaft... they twist easier than fat shafts (that means they break a lot sooner than a bigger dia shaft). But hey.. Look in the Yellow pages under drivetrain/driveshafts & call the people there. You'll bring your shaft in & they'll do the work for you.. maybe you could even drive your truck down there & they could do it all real quick like, too.

Good luck

Yeah, smaller diameter is what I mean :p
We have some pretty fat shafts on our S10s. I only need maybe 1/4" of clearance... so like 1/2" smaller diameter total. I've already cut out as much as I can cut out without actually cutting the floorboard :(

I say trying to find a good way to clearace the floorboard is the way to go.

Yeah, I guess I'll try to find a BiggerF*ckinHammer than the one I used haha. I definitely can't grind anymore and I want to avoid cutting.

It makes it even more difficult that I only have a jack and jackstands to work with. A full car lift would make the job sooooo much easier.

Anyone have a car lift and a BBBBBBFH I can borrow?

True! Bigger then the Size of a Stock F-body Shaft
(Sam Length i think)

Im sure you can go off to the Junkyard and find something out of a Tuner or something?

You have bags, WTH do you need a lift for?
I thought SD sold a preformed trans tunnel? I would just cut/ weld. Cutting your truck is fun :)

You're correct that the F body shafts are a smaller diameter but you're incorrect in saying they are the same length. They are about 4" shorter than a 2wd blazer w/ a New Venture trans needs.. & that has been lowered about 3-5" in the back.

..WTF is he gonna find in a tuner car? They're like '99% FWD shotbixes.. & no that doesn't mean four wheel drive.

i said i THINK they where the same size...all i remember is the Aluminum Ford truck Shaft i have is to long for my S-10 and Dad Firebird

A Wreck RX those are all RWD*i KNOW the RX-7/8 is* IDK how long the Shaft is, but its worth a measure right?
Maybe a Corvette Shaft?

Im just trying to help i really dont know specs on ANY drive shaft:confused:

EDIT:
Just for ****s How long is the Rear Shaft on a Ford Explorer?
i know it has some pretty damn skinny drive shafts, but again IDK how long

Haha I'm going to try the BFH first. If that doesn't work, I'll go find a tuner car and pull the......... antenna ( ) off of it and tape some U-joints to each end. If that doesn't work, I'll go with the SD tunnel. I think I can do the tunnel pretty easily. I'll be under the carpet, so no worries about making it look pretty :)

Good plan?

Go for it...probably one of the few things on our trucks that CAN be fixed with a Ford wrench.:D

RX-7? Short drive shaft... almost the same length as a Miata's. ..and the miata used a shaft that was about as big around as a hotdog... I had a miata.

Corvette.. really short drive shaft. The C4s are about 30-36" long & are about 3.5" diameter.. I had one I was going to use for another project.

Explorer shaft.. longer (would need to be cut down to the proper length) & they about about 3" in diameter, where they neck down at the yokes.. roughly the same as our trucks. They are problably about 4" where it's not necked where I think ours are about 3.5" where they're not necked. I swapped out to an aluminum shaft & it's about 3.5" all the way. I have an explorer shaft sitting in my garage, BTW. ..oh, the explorer shafts use 1350 U-joints.. the bigger ones. So, if it were to be used you'd need to get special u-joints that are 1/2 1350 & 1310 or 1330..

..I know & I don't say that out of arrogance.. but when I was at the swap yesterday w/ my boss I almost got into a fight w/ a guy selling a trans because he was telling me the opposite of what it really was & needed.
