I was just jacking around with intake harmonics, by changing intake runner lengths (with a single plenum instead of split) with engien analyzer pro.
To my astonishment, go from what I got to 171ftlbs@4000 and 162HP@5000 with a 12 inch runner!!!! That would be insane numbers from a 2.8!
The only thing I know of that comes close to having a 12 inch intake runner that would fit on my cast iron heads would be the X-11 intake off the citation. This could be a future project :eyebrows_

Oh, and to add onto that, yes I would lose 10ftlbs and 10HP but It would make my torque curve almost flat and my average power way higher.
Peak power doesnt accelerate, average power does!

well, I guess nobody gives a damn.....sometimes I wonder why I waste time sharing my research on these motors. Everyone *****es about not having bolt ons for them but wont ever take the time to try to do custom mods to it. It is automatically considered a POS just because it comes powerless out of the box! 60v6's have substantial potential in the performance area, and it is one of the most common motors used today in almost all GM cars...but I guess that doesnt matter.
Cubic inches dont always equate power. Making less cubic inches more efficient to make more power is, in my opinion, a much bigger feat to acomplish rather than just slapping more cubes on...

I feel much better now.
hey, i care, i was just at work though. Hmm, build some sheetmetal intakes(might be diffi cult, but it could be done. id look at buying one

you wouldnt have to weld a sheet metal intake. The X-11 multiport intake on the chevy citation has about 12 inch runners, and will fit cast iron heads. Now I have heard of taking intakes similar to that, with the plenum on top, and cutting a hole to put a TBI or carb and just plugging the fuel injectors. Dunno if I'd try that or not though, but it would theoretically work.

Oh and to also point out, this test was done using my cam and exhaust specs. The intake tuning is directly related to exhaust tuning, so it would be different for your application. I of course will be doing tests on a stock base 2.8 TBI. I dont have all the specs for carb'd 2.8's so I cant really accurately test those.
TMan, help me out and try to bring some more 2.8r's over here (I.E. steal them from other sites, hehe).
those are pretty good numbers for a 2.8. and loosing 10 hp is ok if you end up with a much better power curve than you have now unless you use it strickly for drag racing. but more low end power will be more fun to drive around.

I hate to be so cheezy but "There is no Replacement for Displacement"LOLIm just yanking your chain bro. It's cool your trying to stay loyal to the 60 degree v6.I think there is potential in those little engines to make some power. If you wanted to try and get more fuel and airflow with a good runner length and design you should try to use a MPI intake and injectors. It can be done and wouldn't cost as much as you would think.Or just find a wrecked camaro or firebird with a 3.4 and get the engine and wiring harness. They make 160hp and 200tq which aint bad and you would have better throttle response with the 3.4's fuel injection system.Plus they make turbo and supercharger kits for the 3.4 engines too.Just some suggestions.

Well said Maximus, nothing like 454 cubic inches of big block love under your hood.
edelbrock has an intake for your truck. it's a two peise ,the lower intake. then you have an option of 4 or 2 barrel for the upper. It's an 11" split runner an idle to 5500 or 6000rpm intake(depending on carb) and with the right cam and carb you get pretty impressive number.

I dont believe that, that intake has 11'' runners on it. It would have to be raised from the block for that! Maybe 6-7'' maybe.
Plus, I dont want to go to carb. I like TBI...

Oh and BTW blazen, It is built for handling and high RPM power....definately would suck on the strip! More of an autoX truck than anything. The only thing I lack to make a badass autoX truck is a better diff. ratio. That will come this summer though! I am thinking about 3.42's or 3.73's. 4.10's would be too much for me.
you woun't have to go with a carb.I belive Edelbrock makes one for the TB too and it's a one peise.
here's something you haven't thought off though. Arn't the citations fwd. This give you an intake that has the plentum and water inlet on the back of a rwd engine. I've tryed it with a lumina intake. I fliped the intake around only to find that the water pump pulley hit the water inlet. It never would run right and is collecting dust in the garage untill I can figure out how to level out the engine so the gas woun't pool-up on the runners.
