It isn't the vehicle that causes those deaths -- it's the idiots that don't know how to drive them! People think that because it's a two-door SPORT Utility Vehicle, then somehow that makes it a sports car -- and the numbers show it. Of course, those are probably based on UNmodified vehicles. A Blazer with a good 2-4" drop wouldn't be included in those figures, I am willing to bet. And I've seen people driving them that seem to think that because it's a Sport Ute, then it somehow MAGICALLY has better traction in adverse weather. Little do they realize that there are these new inventions called 4x4s!

No matter how much I read, I'm still amazed by people. NO vehicle is safe if the driver lacks common sense.

OK -- I'm done with my rant. . . I could go on for hours (and usually do!), but I'll spare everyone the agony.

that's kinda a biased study. The simple fact of the matter is there are more blazers on the road and due to the low price more young people drive them.

of course if read the full study instead of just the jucecy parts the media likes to publish you find out that they did take that into consideration and raised insurance rate accordingly.

yeah even alittle drop will hep alot with the handleing. and i hate how people with 4wheel drive think they can fly down the highway when its snow covered. 4wheel drive doesnt make you stop faster.

Just gotta love those articles. That one was emailed to me Monday when it was released.
OK the average Mini Van is driven by whom?
The average SUV is driven by whom?
The average full size truck is driven by whom?
A 4 Door SUV is driven by whom?
Should I continue?
Little Ricers aint gonna roll over, but are more often than any vehicle been in and accident either reported or not and it driven by whom?

Whom in the majority owns the S10 Blazer 2 wheel drive 2 door?

Short wheel based vehicles that have a high center or gravity cant go 70 MPH around corners, but whom attempts this feat?
Whom asks how to make such vehicle handle better?
Whom thinks that playing with ninetendo/gameboys/Xboxes etc. is a good learning curve for all things in life?
Whom thinks they must copy the Fast and Furious movies?

Take those morons away and the S10 2 Door, 2 Wheel Drive Blazers wouldnt be any where near that on the list!!

Its a GOD Dam Truck, its top heavy, aint made to go around corners at 400 mph and I know that!!

yep, me thinks thee are a lot of poeple who drive every vehicle they have ever driven the same way ... now with my S10 ( Lowered static the right way) i might attempt to take a corner or on ramp at an elevated speed ( always under the speed limit though)

but with the blazer I just bought, I'm scared to drive it in those same situations at the speed limit ... all it takes is one little mishap to send that baby tumbling ...

as a side note, when I was younger and stupider ( I'm still a bit daft), I took the newly lowered and freshly tireshod ( got some new yoko's with only 80 tread wear ... I miss that grip) SS around a new development I just found the previous day ... had some great twistie roads with zero houses in said development. it was a dream ... except for the fact that after I left, they leveled a few of the lots at one of the curves, spreading slick clay all over the road ... it was a bit dark and as I approached the curve I simply started a slow slide ( about 50mph sideways if I remember) ... I ended up hitting the curb in the curve pretty much perpendicular with my truck ... I am guessing the far side of the truck only lifted about a foot off the ground ...

net result .. two broken rims ... drivers mirror repositioned to the lower part of the door ... and lower/upper control arms and spindle bent along with the expected warped hood and kinked fender ... with paint/body and me doing all the mechanicals except for alignment it ran me about 2k at the time ... I haven't done anything nearly so stupid (vehiclewise) since ...

now if I would been stupid with a reg blazer at the time I woulda most likely rolled it ... or even a stock S10 ...

i've been pretty lucky so far. my first vehical was a lifted s10 blazer (6" lift) I drove that thing around pretty slow because it had so much body lean that think always felt like it was gonna roll.(it did look good though all white with black trim and 31" tires). than I got a car and started to go alittle faster around the turns but I kept it within my limits because I didnt have much experiance yet. but buy the time I got this truck and lowered it i was pretty confident with what i was doing so i could push it alittle but it was always on corners I knew and i still kept it in its limits. but i got to say that i'm pretty impressed with the way my blazer handles lowered 2 1/2 up front and 2 in the back. even my friend with a lowered honduh accord said that he would put money down that my truck would handle better than his car. If you know your limits and your vehicals limits any car can be safe.

I finally went through and read this data...did you notice the numbers on the 4WD Blazers? 98 fatalities for the 2 door, and 101 for the 4-door. Even the 4-door 2WD only has 190. That comment about 4-wheel stop doesn't really come into play here, since they are proven by this test to be a safer vehicle. I won't say this people don't overestimate their 4x4's abilities, though...I've seen it more than enough.
It's also interesting how few of them are multi-vehicle accidents. Single-vehicle accidents and rollovers scream to me 'driver error', not design or safety error. If you don't push it beyond its limits or drive stupid you won't have a problem.

I like the saying... "riding by the seat of your pants"... thats about what it sums up to... push it til' you feel like the vehicle cant handle anymore and thats where you should stop pushing...

Forgive me for not reading this fully, but I feel the same way about idiot drivers with certain vehicles. Today was no exception from it as coming home from the city, a Lexus SUV was holding-up a small number of cars as it was trying to maneuver from my lane to another to get onto an exit ramp a lil' too late. Two cars were in it's way, and it was attempting to slow-down & let them pass to try to cut-over three lanes! Needless to say having to severely break my 70+ stride because of this fool cheesed me, as I laid on the horn giing a long sounding starting from about an 1/8th-mile back while coming-up on the rear of the car he was blocking in my lane. He got the message & finally got outta the way. If I felt he could hear me as I passed him I woulda yelled "Brains optional on that model!?"

As for the roll-over testing, I've seen the results for the top-10 new models for the '85 model-year most likely to roll-over in a high-speed sharp turn. Gladly, the Ramcharger (Dodge's full-size SUV) wasn't on it. And here's why (I figure):

Dodge's full-size trucks have what I call an "under-square" stance to them. That means their stance is wider than it is tall. Even with the 4WD models. And having had two Ramchargers, each at seperate times, I can vouch for that result.

As for the rest of those who can't seem to drive a go-cart without screwing-up, I pass-on this lil' phrase I thought-up just after I got my license: Over-confidence kills, incompetence is suicide, and a hot car don't make-up for a chit driver.

And just because you have the skills to earns the "bills" to pay for something so nice, it doesn't mean you have the skills worthy of operatiing such a machine... Unless that's how you earned said bills.

And any technology developed & added to improve the safety & handling performance of a car is meant to complement good driving skills, not take the place of them (See first statement to understand).

Oh, BTW... Back in the mid-'80s (Before the SUV craze) there was a 20/20 or Nightline report (I know it was ABC) on the unsafeness of compact sport-trucks. Never saw it, but just thought I'd mention it. I'm done now.

you wanna talk about deadly? Talk about the bottom end of the motor that came out fo the jimmy.

I have all the bearings (mostly whole too) in a box in the garage...

Heres a hint: I have yet to touch the crank or mains.

Man Josiah, that was a bad wreck. Were you able to salvage much? BTW, if I was there when those pics were taken I would have been very interested in that blue 67 small back window chevy in the back ground!:D

(Heh, heh, heh) I actually got up next to a Sami that was on-display in my local mall for a sweepstakes. I jokingly slapped the top of the door frame with the heel of my hand saying "Roll-over!" (The news was out about them at the time) and it shook back-&-forth disturbingly.
