is that hard to do?
I noticed that pepboys/Autozone sells those R45 bottles and a freon digital diagnostic device that tells you if needs to be recharged or not. The other diagnostic tool was just a simple pressure gauge marked in different colors showing whats normal, what's dangerous and what's low.
do any of the diagnostic devices work?
I'm wondering cause it looks like my truck's A/C feels like it needs recharging.
In this brutal Southeast LA heat, I have it running full blast and on max a/c. It feels somewhat cool.

You can buy it at Advance for like $20. Hook it up to the low pressure side with the truck running and A/C on full blast. Read the gauge and see if you need to add refrigerant. If so, follow the directions on the can and if you are unsure then you probably should let someone who knows do it for you.

All I did was add the stuff with leak sealer in it. Works so far... I figured, what do I care if it doesnt work in the end, just bypass it and move on.

um, I think you have me there. I forgot what the refrigerant was called, it was one of those #s you mentioned.
btw, I think R45 is the name of the telephone plug/connector/jack.

If your parts store is selling R-12 buy 4-5 cans and send them to me!
I will send you the $$$$.
R-22 and 410 are for home/commercial use-not automotive!
134-A is late model refridge-sold most stores!
Look for label under hood of vehicle to see which refridge you need
just read the directions and go for it.

Is R134 stuff supposed to be used in place of what ever freon was used?
Pepboys, autozone & advance are selling those types.

Are you trying to recharge your 2000 s-10?
if so go with the 134 A refridge, it wont take much to bring your system
back to optimium cooling-follow directions and gauge on dispenser.
you prob wont need more than a half of a can.

I checked my trucks a/c system. it does use R134A as its freeze gas.
Damzcameo,
maybe. It may well need recharging. I gotta get a pressure gauge to tell me for sure.
how big a can?
I noticed that at Autozone, they apparently carry extra small cans of R134a.
What's the optimum cooling pressure for the s10?

Your making the process way to difficult for what it really is. Just buy the can that I posted a while back that has the guage already attached. Its $20 or so...
use this as a reference:
http://autorepair.about.com/od/regularmaintenance/ss/AC-recharge.htm
you will reach optimal cooling when you get within the appropriate markings on the guage

If I'm reading this right, the arrow is to match the outside temperature?
lets say for example, outside temp is 95F, the arrow should line up around 50psi?
prollyl should do it in the morning when its cooler. :)

If you buy that style yes......
Just go to Advance and they may do it for you or at least explain it to you when its in your hands.....
Its about as simple as putting air in your bike tire and reading the guage

heres an update.
checked my trucks A/C. it looks okay.
The gauge reads 60psi and the outside temperature was between 95F - 100F. It was pretty hot at noon.
the gauge isn't marked beyond 85F, it sounds like it is in range.
