Howdy folks! I am new to the forum and am trying to get a definitive answer on a question that puzzels me. I have a 2000 2wd blazer 4.3. The intake gasket was leaking. My daughter ran it hot until it would run no more. It cooled off, she got it started, ran it hot until it would run no more. Needless to say, "Houston, we have a problem!" I pulled the motor because I was not sure what the extent of the damage was. Luckily only 2 blown head gaskets. I decided since it was out, to rebuild it and put a Comp 260AHR cam in.

So here are my questions:

1. Their catalog claims you have to convert to an adjustable valve train, but I read here conflicting posts. I don't mind doing so, but if the factory rollers will work, I don't mind keeping them either. So the question is: Is it mandatory to convert to a adjustable valve train?

2. If so, can the factory rocker arms be converted to adjustable by removing the pedistal and installing studs?

3. If not, the pro magnum and arp conversion studs?

4. Is it certain the stock valve covers will not clear?

5. besides valve train concerns, I know new springs, check clearances. The machine shop is going to clean the runners up.

6. What is the opinion of anybody who has ran this cam? I use my Blazer to pull a 4 wheeler and trailer on occasion. Looking for more power, but not necessarily a hotrod.

7. Effects on fuel mileage?

8. Stock tune?

Thanks!

Alan

Im gonna go ahead and tell u to use the SEARCH feature before someone else does.
Also check out the Projects section of the forum. BoneCrusher, RabidBandit and other members have done some cam swaps and their threads have oogles of good reading to help you out.

I have already searched and read. I have found conflicting information about most of the questions I asked. I am looking for information from some one who has installed the Comp 260AHR on a 2000 or comparable 4.3. If they have, they know the answers to my questions.

I would think you could keep the stock stuff for that mild of a cam. I would still check for coil bind and all clearances. My 2 cents is its better off buying rockers and springs while you got it apart already.

2. If so, can the factory rocker arms be converted to adjustable by removing the pedistal and installing studs?

No because there is nothing to keep the rollers on the rockers to stay aligned. http://www.s10planet.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14790&highlight=comp+cam

3. If not, the pro magnum and arp conversion studs?

Yes and springs

4. Is it certain the stock valve covers will not clear?

No nothing is ever certain...I am going with the old school covers on my swap and I think Rabidbandit has a spacer on his to use the stocks

5. besides valve train concerns, I know new springs, check clearances. The machine shop is going to clean the runners up.

Not sure what you want answered here

This is a very mild cam so if I were you, I wouldnt expect much more than what you have stock

7. Effects on fuel mileage?

Not too sure but I would say you probably wont even notice

8. Stock tune?

Yes you can stay on a stock tune but with any adders....the more you upgrade the better it is to compliment with a nice tune. wait4meperformance.com can do it, just tell them what you got for mods.

Thanks!

Alan
