Hey guys i got a 2.5 cat back flowmaster on my truck and was wondering what would it do to my truck if i cut the tail pipe and dumped it right after the muffler..? im looking for more sound and don't want to lose any performance.

If you cut it right after the muffler you are going to get a bit of a ricey sound at higher rpms. Id say leave it and find a decent tip (actually changes the sound quite a bit.) I like the GTO tip on my ford. Looks good, gave the truck the perfect sound

I wouldnt dump it after the muffler. You will probably get more cabin noise that way. I would dump it just before the rear bumper if anything.

turn down will make it more rumble, but unless you like the exhaust note at all rpms, it may not sound so good

I had cut my tail pipe off after my flowmaster at one time and HATED the way it sounded.... It sounded horrible. I wouldnt suggest it.

You probably wont be able to pass your smog check with out it either.
Go for duals if you want it louder get a high flow cat and make your y-pipe bigger.
It will def be louder then!

Thats what i would do and have the precats taken out also known as resonators. And get a high flow cat. I have seen on ebay a high flow cat for 60 bucks magnaflow brand 2.5" in and out.

I just replaced my engine and added heddman hedders, 2 1/2" custom y pipe and 2 1/2" Magnaflow High flow cat (Summit $60), and a Dynomax Bullet Race Muffler.

Mine is turned down just before the rear axle. I like the sound and personally think that with the correct muffler a turn down sounds better. Doesn't sound ricey even at WOT.

I still want it to be a bit louder though.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I have a gutted cat, gaymaster dumped before the axle. Loud inside the cab at all RPM's, mine is no where near "ricey" at any rpm. That V6 sound shines through at about 4k, I have to admit. Other than that, at idle/cruising I've had alot of people ask me if its a sbc.

Ive noticed that if the truck is lowered a bunch, the sound echos more and sounds louder.
