how do i get my truck to stop burning mass amounts of oil?
its a 1990 S10 pick up. 4.3L V6 stock no fancy mods or anything
smokes and if left to idle in 1 spot black is on the ground where my exaust is
is it burning the oil or are the remote oil cooling lines leaking badly?
the oil cooling lines are known to leak, if they were never changed they may be leaking pretty bad.
4.3ls aren't known to burn massive amounts oil as you describe

This is a forum which consists of information that can help others. If you start a thread with the title "damn", how is anyone supposed to know your talking about oil problems. It would also be nice to have a run down of what kind of motor you have, mileage, etc. because we are not mind readers.
I changed the title to something more appropriate

if i let it idle in 1 spot for a bit you see black on the ground, i was gonna give it an oil change today but i had to use 2 quarts yesterday when i drove to work

That is not buring oil.. That is leaking oil. Look to see where is is coming from then we can see what you need to fix it.

I would start with the obvious spots...
oil pan gasket, head gasket, valve cover gasket.

So You have no smoke. But you have black stuff on the ground comming from the exhaust pipe. It sounds like it is running to rich to me. That is unburnt fuel. if you were burning oil you would have smoke...

If it's not leaking oil onto the ground, and you have smoke coming from the exhaust... It could be blowby past the piston rings... Or your valve stem seals could be completely shot. Check to make sure the color of the smoke. Black=carbon... meaning your engine is running rich, Blue=burning oil, White=coolant,Gray/White=Tranny fluid

Check the oil pressure sender too. Sometimes they can leak like mad. In some cases it'll seem like you have a bad rear main seal.

somehow is missed that, I must have been half asleep when reading this.

burning oil will be blue smoke, black smoke is from two much fuel.. which is a problem you wanna worry about after you fix the massive oil leak, or else the engine isn;t going to be intact long enough to worry about it.
to use two quarts in only a few days without driving that far would be pretty extreme oil consumption. I never heard of that many cars burning oil that badly...not even saturns which are known to burn oil pretty good. When I first replaced the oil lines on my old blazer the part store gave me the wrong gasket for the line ends and they developed a massive leak on my way to work... which used a lot of oil in a hurry.
As I said above these trucks aren't known to burn oil that bad but are equipped from the factory with disposable oil cooling lines... if they are original they might be leaking pretty bad. It could even be as simple as the crush gaskets leaking on the end of the line, or the gasket on the block adapter. The best way to find out is to simply crawl under the car and look where it's wet with oil.
Or top off the oil then start the truck, lay down in front of the truck and watch where the oil comes out.
You can even check if the oil filter is leaking(as well as the cooling lines where it meets the remote filter block) without even laying on the ground.. its on the drivers side fender under the hood.

i think i am leaking oil from the rear main seal, and the thing that holds the filter.....i wanna get a new oil filter holder piece(idk what its called) lol
