About a week ago my motor shut off in traffic. It started back up after about 3 minutes. It did it again and wouldn't start. I unplugged the msd 6a and plugged the factory coil in without the msd. It started right up. I switched it back and all ok. Today it started its **** again. Its gotten worse now. It still shuts off even with the msd unplugged (running on the factory coil and thats it). With the msd hooked up when I mash the gas from a dead stop it sputters, like putha....putha.pth.. put and then goes. It doesn't do that with just the factory coil, but still doesn't have the power it used to have. I'm thinking coil. I've had the msd on for about 9 or 10 months and 30k miles. Please help. <<<<<<< I sound like a bum on the street. Will work for advice. hahahaha...

I'm willing to bet your coil is hosed. Under the load that the MSD puts on it, it ****s out, but when left to produce it's own spark it runs, but not well.

The MSD shouldn't really have that drastic of an affect on your power -- I little more gas mileage and better throttle response, but not a serious power gain. So, I'm willing to bet it is the coil. Pick one up and hook the MSD back up and see how it goes. If it isn't that, then there's a short somewhere, or possibly the MSD box itself is bad, but start with the coil first.

I had the same problem when I had a 6a. When I unhooked it then it would start and run fine. So I sold the 6a. I'm not running an MSD right now... I'm not running anything. I do have a brand new MSD Digital 6 plus though.... hehe... I might get around to hooking it up

Thanx guys. I am going to get the msd coil today. I don't have the msd box hooked up right now and still it wouldn't start this morning. It wanted to start, os I had to unplug the connector from the coil and plug it back in and wiggle it around and it started. Once it started I wiggled the connector and the wires thinking there was a loose wire or something somewhere but it stayed running. I hope is the coil and not something serious. Also I've noticed that my intake is louder for some reason. When I get on it the intake is a lot louder than it was. I will let you guys know of the progress.

Ok I have replaced the coil with a msd coil and now it doesn't stall or give me any running problems so far. The intake is still loud when you get on it and it doesn't go anywhere. It sounds like the cat is glogged because the exhaust isn't as loud as it was and it acts like the exhuast is glogged somewhere. Bad pinging when you get on it. It feels like I just dropped a lawn mower motor in.

Simple quick check if a welder is handy, drill a hole before the cat and see if there is alot of pressure there. A non clogged cat wont make much a difference and kinda be just like a normal exhaust leak, a clogged cat will RUSH exhaust out and it may even run better!

Welder is to reseal the hole!

Thanx obi, I will try that. Tomorrow I am going to get the exhaust redone. I have the y-pipe and the new "blowmaster" muffler. I'll know then if it is clogged, but may drill that hole tonight.

you have an 02 right? just pull the o2 sensor precat.
i've gone through 2 cats with mine already both replased under warrenty and replased by the dealer(remeber thats 7 years or 80k on the emisions). The 2nd was somkinda upgraded cat because the stock Gm cats can't take allot of abuse off road because the honeycomb meterial comes loose. Get this checked first

From what your saying though it sounds like you coil is bad. I don't use the msd boxs anymore because of the cheap constuction that goes into them. I've had real good luck jacobs and mallery box.
