I'm thinking about buying one for my 01 S10 (4.3liter V6).

I want one that:

Easy to install
Affordable
Good performance boost

So, can anyone help me?

They're all pretty easy to install. For affordable, get one off e-bay. Performance-wise, I wouldn't say theres a huge difference between different brands of smooth, round tube and big filters. They're all pretty much the same thing.

I like the AEM Brute Force Dryflow. I seen a dyno in a mag where they put one on a 4.3 Blazer and got a 12hp gain. Of course that doesn't mean it's so though.

The K&N FIPK only adds 4-6hp. K&N sends you a dyno on the same vehicle showing that.

Unless you buy a cheap ebay one, you are goes to spend about $200-300 for maybe a 4-10 gain.

Mine is an ebay kit identical to the AEM brute force but probably with a K&N style oiled filter. It was less than $70 shipped IIRC.

I ran the cut factory box with a K&N drop in for a while and didn't really notice a difference when I switched to the CAI. With the small increases they give it's really hard to tell if it's an actual gain or whether the difference in sound fools you. The little stuff adds up though

My friend was telling me Ebay is good, but make sure it comes with all the parts... he said hope it comes with K&N Stickers to put on it, even if it isn't a K&N. :P

Mine came with K&N instructions, even though it wasn't K&N ;)

I cut my stock air box and put a K&N filter in it. Works just as good....

I would say it seems decent.

It's within what I've got right now.

I only have $60. :P

I can get some help from my Friend's dad too, but with instructions, it'll be simple.

I would probably go with something like this since it comes with a heat shield (this is basically the same one I have).

I still kinda want the AEM under my hood. Just not $250+ out of my account...

Not to be an azz... But why does everyone have to have a cai? All the dino numbers are above 4000 rpm. I never drive at 4000 so why? I guess if you like driving around in second gear it would help. There is no change in mpg. The only thing I see is it sounds cool...

increased mpg would be a reason. your truck can breathe better than the confined box... thats my reason. Other than that, Im looking to snorkle it for my offroading.

Others may want the CAI for the track if they take it there.

But Im still left with better mpg, and letting the truck breathe a little easier

I got 0 mpg. I had one on my old Sonoma and On my ole Blazer and no change. On my crew I cut the stock box and put an K&N filter in it. No change in mpg... So thats three trucks with no change. If you think about it our trucks came stock with a cai.

eh... it was a shot in the dark. I figured it would breathe better...
maybe not I guess. thought it would get at least a 1 or 2 mpg increase

I wanted a CAI for a cleaner looking engine bay. Changing/cleaning the filter is also a pain with the stock airbox and the rad hose in the way. The factory box may have a cold air inlet but that inlet is only like 2" in diameter!

When I had my scanner I compared the IAT and the amount of air coming in between stock and the K&N FIPK. There was a difference. Can't remember what it was. I do remember the extra air flow was alot greater than the change it made in IAT.

John, you scanner reads that info. You can compare it for yourself.

I also compared the IAT will stock and the Jammer. Jammer= some real hot air coming in.

I do and I did. No change. I have the stock box and I cut open the front and opened up the core suport to let more air in. Then only good thing is it sounds cool....
I can see putting one on to clean up the engine bay. They do look cool.

Best I've seen and not much more than the one I originally posted.

NVM on that CAI, it's for 2.2s.

I'm more than likely going with the first one with no Shroud.
