cash for clunkers = good deals at junk yards

went junk yarding today with my parents(they were looking for seats for their bronco) i went with, ended up leaving with a grill guard, 45ft of 4g amp wireing, 25 of 4g amp wire, a bug deflector, a wireless switch for offroad lights and a ton of the smaller bolts and clips that my blazer had missing for $35

my parents walked away with new leather seats for their bronco(2 front, the back and a nice center console) a grill guard, spare tire carrier(random part we went looking for) and a 2in body lift for their F250 all for $200

i counted 9 first gen, 11 2nt gen and 6 bravadas, all with good to mint parts, if your looking for some, call your junk yards and see if they are taking the cash for clunker cars and parting them out

only sad part was that we got to watch them blow the motor on a mint 91 bronco xtl, had 75k miles on it..... such a waste, but dang the parts deals are good

call around before you go, and if possible try to talk to a mechanic and not the front desk help. mechanics tend to be a lot more help full and they more of what cars have what parts then front desk help, we wouldnt have knowen about all the stuff we got if i didnt ask a mechanic where they were hiding the first gen bravadas

currently theres two first gen bravadas at my local junkyard complete, untouched, one black, and one blue.

every single one of the vehicles there has a sticker on the motor saying it was a CARS program vehicle. It turned the yard into a goldmine overnight.

Speaking of cash for clunkers, there's a guy in St. Joe that bought all the cash for clunkers vehicles in this area , just this passed weekend, and this coming weekend, he's got all of these cars sitting in a big lot, selling parts off them, lol but the thing of it is they're pouring like liquid glass or something in the engines causing them to lock up.

Can't figure that one out, but he's making a killing selling these parts.

Funny how most of the vehicles are Ford, Jeeps and Dodge, very few S10's

cause the s10 got desent milage per gallon so it didn't qualify for the c4c. it had to get something it 18 or less for it to be considered "on the list"

yeah but the ones that did qualify has 4.3 engines which is the best one that came factory in S10's.

well went back to the junk yard and picked up an overhead console, just the basic one, no comp. or mileage thing, both of witch i dont need, and about 7 under dash, stock fog and rear defroster switch mounts(i got plans for these and wanted a couple of extras just in case) for $20

just noticed that i never got around to posting pics of the guard and deflector in this thread so here it is, no pics of the OC or switches as im sure you all know what they look like and i wont have installed pics of the OC in tell i can pull a headliner from my parts ty(****) and reglue the fabric

**** ill make this known now, yes i have a parts ty(and a currently non running ty) no they are not for sale, yes im sure they aint for sale the parts one is nearly useless and heading to the recycleing place as soon as i pull the headliner, all other usefull parts have been sold off or stolen off of it, the other ty... its a repo that i got for $200 because the last owner welded 1/4in steel plates over the windows, welded the doors, hood and tailgate closed and welded plates over the frame to cover the motor, it does have the motor thou, im jsut not sure what im going to do with it(the ty not the motor)

pics next year when i go down to salt lake to visit my grandma(the ty is sitting in locked storage atm, after having my parts ty striped clean(just found out someone boosted the cracked and broken cladding) in a "secured part" of a friends junk yard im keeping it under lock and key

as for why, i dunno, guess if he couldnt have it, no one could

$150 alternator. I got one at the yard for $50 with the same warranty as the made in china crap.

Our local U-pull-it junk yard is loaded with the C4C. its a shame to see some cars there. You know someone out there would have bought some of these for the same if not more than what the stealership gave them.

I've seen these jugs of crap they used to pour into the engines to burn 'em up.

I've seen alot more S10's and Blazers at the junk yard. kinda sad.

But the only positive note I see is, more parts trucks!

I got a clean, near new TCCM from a blazer to replace my corroded one.

if anything happens to my blaZeR2 now, the yard has what I need for once

Just got 4 pretty much brand new, 235/70r15 uniroyal laredos off a C4c bravda, in the u pull it yard for $12 each (+ another $10 after having them dismounted and returning the rims). the tread is about 95%.

They are nothing spectacular, but for $12, they're hard to beat. lol
They have more tread on them than the fs destination LEs I got a few months ago.

woot, found a different junkyard with C4C cars, they have a bravada stuck being a bunch of fullsized trucks with mint(but dusty) black power(theres a heated switch too) leather seats they want $100 for the 2 buckets and the leather off the back seat, my dad is gunna call them from his work and see if they can drop the price if hte parts are for one of his parts trucks, last time he tried that the price droped 85%ish :D so heres hopeing


side note, i know i have to replace the seat folder part to make 4 dr blazer seats fold forword like the 2dr ones but do i have to do the seat rails too? and if so can i still use the power seat if i hook it up? im not to worried about it but if those seats drop to under $50 the wife will let me get em so power or not i hope they be mine :D

My local junkyard had a pretty nice looking Bravada. It had Platinum Edition decals on the fenders. I had to have them take the buckets out for me after breaking my Torx fitting off in one them. When I pulled the cloth,manual track seats out of my 99 Blazer I was pleasantly surprised to find a plug under each seat.Bravada power lumbar seats plugged right in and worked.I still have to figure out where the heated seat wire plugs in,there must be a plug somewhere because the Blazer has a fuse in the underhood fusebox for heated seats,even though it didnt have them. Also a perfect match on the color.Im really enjoying having power seats,cant wait to get the heat part working. This yard had about a dozen of really clean CFC S-10's,kinda sad to see some decent stuff getting torn up.
