I had this made a few months ago.

When I put my Efans on along time ago, I had to use the top half of the plastic shroud to keep the radiator in its place. I looked all over and couldnt find an aftermarket one.

Over time, the way I had it tied to the fans made it start cracking. I got new fans and didnt really have the same spot to secure the shroud.

I asked my dad if he knew anyone that fabs aluminum. He sent me to this guy that made this in like 10 minutes. I showed him what I wanted, he took some measurements, grabbed a scrap pc of aluminum and marked out the measurements and went to town on it. In 10 minutes he had it in my hands. I couldnt believe it, I was amazed.

This one is raw aluminum so I tried to hide some of the scratches by thinking I was going to give it that satin look, but that didnt happen. I just made it look like shiz. I thought about powdercoating it but it was too late.

I used some rubber sheeting for the underneath side to protect the radiator from metal on metal vibrations and wear. I used 3M adhesive to make the rubber stick to it. Being I got glue all over the under side, I am going to have him make another so I can have it powdercoated before I put the rubber on it. I tried to use the stock rubber bushings (that go on the top of the radiator) from the stock shroud but it didnt work out. Thats what the holes on the ends are from. So from this point on the holes wont be there.

If anyone is interested I can have a few made and even powdercoated to the color of your choice. I would have to figure a fair price. I didnt have to pay him anything for this one. I could probably have it powder coated for about $20-30 not sure yet though. And it would probably only cost about $10-15 to have them made. All this is just a guess though. I am sure the more I make or have powdercoated the less they will cost to produce.

I am not looking to make any money on this, just provide a part that I believe doesnt exist in the aftermarket world.

The electric fan conversion kit comes with the most powerfull electric fan it's size. The CNC brushed aluminum mounting brackets (no cheezy zip ties). As well as the deluxe wire harness complete with fuze, relay, and adjustable thermostat.

Plus this is the ONLY fan that will fit between the radiator and the stage 1 turbo kit and actually keep coolant temperatures where they need to be!

E-Fan Kit Only $170

Individual Components:
16 Inch Reversible Fan $95
Aluminum Mounting Brackets $40
Wire Harness with Thermostat $50
Optional A/C Wire Harness $30

They do alot of 4cyl stuff too. So that fan might be to for a 4cyl.

Still for $170 there are better and cheaper options.

I haven't got in touch with the guy that made it yet, to see what he would charge me. I know he would want an idea of how many, so I am just getting it out there to see if anyone is interested. I see some are. I will try to get with him over the wkend. I cant see them costing any more than $20. If you want it powdercoated I can have that done but don't know how much that would cost yet. I think like maybe $20-30. Just a guess though, based on other stuff I had him pc. I would have to run it by there so he can see how big it is.

Id definately be in for one if its $20 or $30.

Saw the fab guy this evening. Here is what I have for pricing so far, not including shipping, which I dont think will be much. I think I can ship them in a flat rate USPS tube or something like that. I will figure out the cheapest method.

The raw aluminum like in the picture (except in the pic I tried to give it that brushed look by putting a wire wheel to it to hide the scratches, bc it was a scrap pc to start with) will be $35. A brushed stainless steel one would run $45. And polished stainless steel would run around $60. He was not sure on the polished ss price bc he nds to see what a sheet is gonna run. He is going out of town tomorrow and wont be back till next week. I will see if I can get some sample pics of the different metals and finishes when he returns.
I havent been by the powdercoating guy yet. I will try to get by there tomorrow after work and get a price on that.

I'm only adding $10 to what he is charging me to cover the cost of the rubber that is on the under side, and put $5 in my pocket for my time. Not trying to get rich off everyone here. I am going to make up a jig to drill the holes so that every pc is correctly drilled. No half ass work here.

count me in when u get this done. let me know. as if it was the stock shroud, where would it be cut at? directly behind the rubber things for the under sides? is that about the spot? this is what im doing http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.s-10crewcab.com/~henryj/fans/fans2.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.s-10crewcab.com/~henryj/fans/fans.html&usg=__XVpNnZnjh11weZhMGJCVkONcfn4=&h=297&w=396&sz=37&hl=en&start=7&tbnid=OjGIYYWIG9UtDM:&tbnh=93&tbnw=124&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dls1%2Belectric%2Bfan%2Bs10%26gbv%3D2% 26hl%3Den%26safe%3Doff
take a look at that how he cut his. that about the same? thnx

Update

I stopped by the powdercoating guy this evening. He said he can coat them in any color for $20(if he IS ALREADY spraying a job of the same color). It would cost $30 if it was a color he was NOT using at the time(because he would have to cln the equipment to change color just for one small pc). He is always coating stuff in different colors when I go there so chances are he may be using the color you want that week. Especially if its a common color, like blue, red, green, black, white, colors like that. He does have just about every color of the rainbow though.

For the powdercoated ones I will include rubber washers so the bolts dont mess up the coating when u crank them down.

So for a powdercoated aluminum one it would be $55 plus shipping, unless you want some off the wall color, then it may run you $65 plus shipping.

Here is a link to my powdercoating guy, so you know he is not some half baked jobber. http://laskercoatings.com/

If you want a color that you already have and can send me a sample I can have him computer match it.

I just took some different pics of what I think your asking about. You can see that the back side folds down to hold the radiator snug in its place. It actually only holds the radiator on the ends so if you need the middle part gone I think I can have him make you one that way. Not sure how much that will take away from strength at that point but I can see and let you know. Or if you need it longer to screw the fans to it. Looks like my part ends the same plc theirs does.

Is this what you are asking?

that actually looks about perf.. only thing ill need is the lip to be a little bigger. i need it to be 1.5 " i hope ill be able to cut the half circle for the top fan... u see that? i wonder if he could do that too. i dont know how to measue that dimension.

LEADFOOT
10-11-09, 10:28 AM
I can have him make it longer to the 1.5" you need it. Without the fans here, I dont think we can make that cut out around the top fan. You will have to make that cut out. Remeber its aluminum, its soft, easy to cut. A dremel would do it without a problem. Use the reinforced cutoff wheel then a grinding stone to clean up the edges. I use a dremel to do just about anything. Also some grinding stones that fit in a drill work great too. Never tried this but maybe a jigsaw with a bi-metal blade, like a hacksaw type blade. Just thought of that, might try it on my next project. I'll see if I can find a blade like that, that will fit in the jigsaw and get a scrap pc of aluminum to try it out on. See if I cant cut some circles.
