hey....
I know some of you are sports fans....
any you of supported your team by putting those car/truck flags on your truck bed? if so, how did you mount them on the bed rail (for a lack of better term). The car flags that I've seen were designed to be mounted on windows. and the truck flags I've seen were designed to be mounted in portholes (or holes in the rails) and my 2000 s10 doesn't have that feature.
would appreciate suggestions.

is that an arc welder???
NO!, nothing like that. I was thinking along lines of something less complicated.. like a clamp..... Besides I don't know how to weld.
I've found some clamps, but some models are made for marine use.
and I do have a type of a clamp called Uni-grip which is made for holding bikes in the truck bed. It is a bed rail clamp. only problem with this clamp, the outlet is set at a horitzontal position instead of vertical.
it looks like this.

anyone know where I can find a clamp similar to the Uni-grip?

My bud took the wondow ones, cut off the bottom window part from the pole part and just screwed them to the bedside (inside rail). Left them angled and they sorta rest against the tailgate. But his truck is old and beat...doesnt care about extra holes.

I would say stake pockets but thankfully (for me) second gens dont have that. Like Mike said or just simple redneck engineering. You could bolt a house flag holder to the bed floor or bumper but with fuel prices rising again I would say get one of the window overlays to save in the long run.

as far as bolting them to the bed floor. no thanks. no ideas on drilling thru the bed floor please.
appreciate the thought tho.
anyone know a thing or two about PVC pipes?
I'm thinking I could rig up a right angle flag pole made out of PVC pipes & tees for the car flag. the only issue would be to how to secure the car flag in that setup once I have the diameter of the parts involved.
This is waaayyy too much engineering for such a simple plan...and no thats a mig welder

what's the difference between an arc welder & mig welder?
its really not that much engineering involved.
it only needs say like a 4" long pvc pipe at say 1.5" in diameter which would prolly fit in a Uni-grip clamp. I may need an pvc adapter prolly 1.5" to say .5" in diameter. Then a Tee or a Elbow PVC in .5" in diameter can be added.
2 options with the car flag
option 1 - thread the car flag thru the Tee PVC
option 2 - cut the base of the car flag and thread the car flag thru the Elbow PVC.
I need something to secure this flag in this setup.
Dunno what you call it, but it is found in power drills where you insert the bit (chuck?) into the cavity and screw it in tight where the cavity closes in on the bit.
maybe there is a link somewhere. I have seen one where someone built a PVC flag pole.

how do you mount a flag to that type of clamp which is designed to hold campers.
with wire?

Mig or wire welder uses wire thats fed though the gun. Arc or stick welder uses welding rods.
Screw the damn thing to the clamp, clamp it to the bed rail.

Tite-lok has several different types clamps. the one depicted, will that type fit?
someone made a suggestion that I get an L bracket, mount the car flag on the bracket (either with screw or with gorilla glue) and place a clamp on the bracket.
