Well i have a 1986 chevy s10 2.8 4wd .My problem is when i start up the truck and getting going it will shift from first to second with no problem but when it needs to shift to third it doesnt. So i will be in second forawile then it will shift or unless i sit at a red light for a few.Once i start driving it will be fine. Its kinda weird. The transmission came out of a 1989 s10 and i had ir rebuilt. Its a 700r4.I would to know what wrong with it so i can get it fixed before it starts to get cold out or bad weather.

Is the detent cable properly adjusted?
Will it go into 4th? How is the fluid - level, color and smell?

yeah it will go into forth. But if i drive it for a long period of time it wont shift into forth.I will hear it shift into forth but it wont stay in forth. If i drive it to work and back it will shift into forth with no problem.I wandering if its the kick down cable or tv cable.unless they are the same cable.

I'd start with the TV cable if the fluid is fine. Somewhere on the site there is an adjusting procedure explained...
