physics involed are the fact that a square does not have the same amount of mass in every given direction . where a circle does . keep that in mind

force is applied to the center of a sub evenly . in a small circle . this is true will all subs . if you look through the side of the sub you can see where the motor attaches to the cone . this is where the force is applied .

now when this force is applied to a mass that is balaced you get movement in a straight line . but when the force is applied to an uneven mass it will move in the direction of the most mass .

since the L series subs have 4 places where uneven mass is is will move more linear than a completely uneven mass . though there is still a problem . the sub will try to move toward the four corners at once . doing this causes the cone to warp at the "sides" ,which is the cause of distortion and non-linear movement .

distortion and non-linear movement cause heat which in turn is a VC worst enemy . heat is what causes blown subs .

there it is . ive said it all . these are the facts behind the L series subs .

yes they can be loud , due to their extra cone area . but the loudest subs in the world umpteen years running are round . the reason why........in SPL distortion is not your friend .

admins feel free to make this a sticky .

I always prefered the round Solos. . . But, I was never a big Solobaric fan -- in the Kicker line I prefer the Comp VRs, but I'm always experimenting.

I miss the old Hart Professional series, personally. . . Those running with the Mack Daddy Linear Power amps. . . Of course, I've used Oz Audio with good results as well.

Any more, with all the car audio companies coming out, it's hard to decipher what's good from what's not -- so I usually go with what I've used in the past. Just out of curiosity, what do you recommend?

for SQ SPL or a little bit of a mix ?

myself i have great luck with memphis M3's for SPL , and JL for SQ . other subs i would use for SQ , american bass , memphis Mclass ,RE's XXX , and alpine type R or X . there are a few others also .

for SPL apps . memphis M3's are great , selinium extremes , american bass XO or VFL series , MA's EHO , treo , and RE mt's . these also make good SQ SPL subs for all around loud but decent sounding systems .

I've only recently discovered Memphis equipment. I haven't had a chance to hear it actually installed in anything, but it's got a good reputation from what I'm hearing.

Call me old fashioned, but I've had a few IASCA winning systems with Pioneer (or Alpine) and Kicker. . . Of course, from what I've been hearing, IASCA is no longer the cat's ass in autosound competition. . . But it was back in the days when I was competing. Damn, I feel old!

JL for sound Q? Hmm. . . Things definitely HAVE changed since I was into audio professionally. . . Kicker was sound Q, JL was SPL, and Infinity was audiophile (with Oz Audio coming up fast). . . Again: DAMN! I feel old!

I have some L7's. They are just eights but they bump for what they are. I'm going to sell them though. Does anyone want'em?
