does the TBI 2.8 have the opening on the side of the block for a mechanical fuel pump? i'm thinking of replaceing my 2.8 with a low mileage one but it's TBI and mine is carbed.

Some do I have an 84 that does. The motor that I bought and was told it was an 84 did not. A short while later i wound up putting the moto I bought into an 86 and during the swap over of intake and all of that i found the original engine from the 86 had the fuel pump opening it is covered by the fuel filter bracket and capped off with a freeze plug. So ypu will just have to look and good luck.

Any block 1985 and before has the mech fuel pump boss.

Any block 1986 and after (everything with fuel injection) does not have it.

You can easily run a newer block with an electrical fuel pump. The newer blocks have bigger mains and the fuel injection heads got bigger valves.

X2 on the electric fuel pump. We are putting a carbed 4.3L in to replace a carbed 2.8L, but using a newer 4.3L block, so it will have an electric fuel pump.
