I had a 98 Sonoma with the 2.2 5-speed, the truck had 259,000 miles on it when I traded it. It had the original engine and trans. and I had zero problems with it.

damn, cuz my gpa is worried about the "high miles" but my current s10 has a motor knock when i get on it....and a massive oil leak that is draining my wallet, and my oil....literally

so its overall a good motor? if cared for properly

Yes, if it is taken care of it is an excellent motor, but don't plan on outrunning anything other than a gimpy squirrel

thats ok, as long as it is a little snappier then my current truck im fine, or even runs better lol, but once it dies i would have to upgrade to a v6 lol not big on the insurance on the v8s lol, im 18 and got an accident and a speeding ticket and alrdy lost my liscense for 30days, but w/e lol...what about the mods for the 2.2L cheaper mods i mean, are they helpful?

and now i just need to convince my gpa to look past the 150k miles on it, cuz its already got the body mods i wanted to do to a fleetside anyway. its a good deal if you ask me hahaha

Not really, the best bang for the buck is definitely nitrous but I wouldn't go more than a 50 hp wet shot. Maybe you should look at other insurance companies. I'm 20, have a driving without insurance ticket against me (also lost my license for 30 days) and my insurance was $69 per month on a 1991 C1500 Sport with a 350 in it.

With that kind of mileage and the body in that shape, I would offer $1500 and work from there.

even with the custom bumper, spare fender, and other extras?. i mean its just a little bit of paint in my eyes, my truck im drivin now is UGLY as hell

but i was gonna offer $2000 and go from there, because my gpa is the 1 buyin me a vehicle, as an early graduation gift. ha, but im pretty hell bent on that thing

Well, I myself wouldn't spend that kind of $$$ on a truck with that mileage that needs a paint job. Diff'rent Strokes for Diff'rent Folks I suppose.

Well my uncle is in the pdr business and does work for alot of different car dealers, and **** so he can get me a good price on a paint job, or if I need to do a motor rebuild. The truck I have atm is way off, bad paint, body is ****ed, motor/tranny problems. Ugh and I see that as something to work to get paint, and possibly a bigger motor haha, but I guess we will see. If I don't like the extra bumper it would be sold. The truck I have right now would be on craigslist for like 500, w/o my xtreme wheels, and that would almost be paint!
lol

My 97 has a v8 in it not thanks to the 2.2 blowing up at 100K miles. I had a 98 4.3 with 320k highway original miles and ran and drove great.

well if the red 1 is a pos, i have a 2nd s lined up, a 99 xtreme still only a 2.2L 6speed. and it has some what looks like wrinkles on the hood and may need paint but its all 1 color, and its from a smaller dealer, so i have a backup but only tihng is the xtreme is 500 over the limit my gpa set for me of 3000, but thats what im gonna try to sell ym s10 for

First, I have NEVER heard of a 6 speed behind a tutu. Second, if it has wrinkles in the hood, that throws up a red flag, could've possibly been wrecked.

Damn, there's a 1984 V8 S10 right down the street from me for $2500. It's rough but I bet it's cleaner than what your lookin at. Oh and you NEVER tell the insurance company "it has a v8".

BigTruckDrivah

My V8 is listed as a "four lunger, with a 5 speed".

I thought you were selling yours.

I'm contemplating it, it's just sooooo much fun to drive. It gets alot of attention, I'd have no prob selling it. I'm going to try this budget thing first. You wanna buy it? I'd probably let it go for $3000 to a planet member.

Big Mack Daddy

Sure I'll buy it, let me check with my bank real quick

The only real weak-point to the LN2 is the timing-chain set. Reason is the engine was originally designed for FWD car apps, which would place the oil-pan's sump under the "correct" front of the engine (The end that all the accessories are mounted on) and forcing the chain to rely on "splash" oiling to be lubed. When they moved the sump to the rear, so it'd fit S-truck apps, there went to lube & the life of the chain-set after it, and seeing it fail around 100k-mi isn't unusual. And when it does, settle for nothing but the GM factory-replacement parts, as the cheap ones can fail in as little as 30k-mi. Trust me on that.

The '98-later versions got a sort of "band-aid" to this, in the guise of something done to reduce noise: A orifice was placed in the plug for the lifter oil-galley so as to bleed-off any air that may get trapped & cause lifter noise well after start-up (An oddly common problem for the LN2). Oil trickles out it too, and this oil lubes the chain-set extending it's life!

What about the mods for the 2.2L cheaper mods... I mean, are they helpful?
Look at it this way... Instead of focusing on how-much horsepower is typically gained with certain mods on other designs of engines, focus on the percentage of power gained. Take this & add it to 100% on a calculator like follows:

100% = 1.00

Hey, I don't know how good with math you are... Hence why I'm explaining it like this. But see how the decimal-point is moved two places to the left? That's how the calculator will recognize when you mean 100%. So then 100% + say... 7%, would be:

1.07

Now, multiply what your engine already puts-out "net" (118, in this case) and you'll see how much you'll realistically gain.
